Default Budget watchdog taking legal action over cutback information

Quote:
Canada’s budget watchdog plans to take some federal departments to court over their refusal to release information related to billions of dollars in government cutbacks.

Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page will be serving all “non-compliant deputy heads” with legal notice early this week, he confirmed in a statement issued to CTV’s Question Period Sunday.

He declined to provide further details, as the issue will soon “constitute the subject of a legal action.”

In recent weeks, Page warned repeatedly that he was willing to take federal officials to court if he did not receive more details about recent austerity measures.

Another great move that Harper doesn't get credit for. Sure the Conservatives are crying that Page is overstepping his mandate, but we all should want him to take this to court. Hopefully the end result will be more transparency.

IIRC, he's been on the ass of government a while now, and has won a few battles already.

Your line about Harper not getting credit made me laugh! He appoints a guy to do a job, and then basically never gives him the information needed to do said job. Bravo indeed.

I think that the constant secrecy and lack of transparency is starting to show though. Harper might get all the feedback he needs if this ends up in court.
