I know we have a few music threads on CP already, but they cover all sorts of music.......I'm just curious to what newer bands people are listening to that I may have not heard of before. I want to make a CD of newer stuff.

I'm into stuff like The Killers, The Bravery, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Metric, etc..........although I'm open to other kinds of music as well.

Anyone have any helpful hints?

Thanks in advance.

Bloc Party..........yes, awesome CD. Listened to 'Banquet' almost every day.

I'll have to check out Bright Eyes. Thanks Hakan.

I just bought the new Dropkick Murphy's album, The Warrior Code. Same old great goodness on there.

I am also listening to a ton of Bob Dylan lately. Bedouin Soundclash rocks too.

I saw Amos Lee on Conan O'Brien last week, and am really enjoying his newest self-titled CD. He has been compared to Norah Jones, and sounds sorta like a male version of her. D/L "Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight" if you wanna check him out.

Also finally got around to checking out John Legend's debut LP "Get Lifted," after hearing and reading for months all the critical acclaim for the album. It's fantastic- a modern R&B classic.

So far what's been listed makes up the majority of my playlist, but I'll try to add a couple of others. Hmm, I don't really know how current all of these are...

The Be Good Tanyas, The Delgados, Sufjan Stevens, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bedhead, Built to Spill, The Decemberists, Cursive, Walkmen

Postal Service has a few good songs, and Commander Venus features the lead singer from Bright Eyes being somewhat less pansy.

Oh, and if you stumble upon a Hot Little Rocket (local band) cd, try to snap it up.

First thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was Bloc Party. Obviously I'm not alone in that. Others I'm listening to: Feist, Annie, Jaga Jazzist, Of Montreal, Sufjan Stevens.

Uhhh the new Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, System of a Down, NIN, Beck, Gorillaz and Coldplay are all quite good IMO. On the softer side we've got Keane and Dissociatives.

Shatner's newest album "Has Been" was produced by Ben Folds, it's actually rediculously good! ESPECIALLY The cover of Pulp's "Common People" Check it out and you'll be suprised.

I'd argue that Bill yelling out "Yeah and the chip stains grease will come out in the wash" does.. but that's just my opinion..

ATTA BOY!

Anytime I bring up hip hop in these threads nobody replies, except for maybe Eddie Bronze and a few others. But I know I've recommended a few LPs before for you kermit, and by mentioned the new Common LP, which is a certified classic, you're the man. 40 mins. of hip hop magic. NIce pick.

Thanks Ro!

A friend of mine wouldn't stop talking about him so I thought I'd check it out. I was really impressed! He also sent me some Little Brother and J-Live which I enjoyed..

Add Pocket Dwellers to that list of music, Canadian funk-hip-hop-jazz group, they're coming to Calgary with Sweatshop Union on Saturday, if any of you have nothing to do I suggest you check it out. I can't make it thanks to a wedding, but I would love to go!

Yeah, i copped the latest COMMON album, it is really good stuff, very concious hip hop. some others i am listening to are the killers, talib kweli, audioslave, def leppard, coldplay, black eyed peas. and a slew of others. However I seem to listening to the new common song alot these days, it is called "GO", very old schoolish beat u could never get tired of. Oh yeah John Legend's album is one of the best I have listened to in a long while!
