The way the store explains it, they had something else set up already. Oprah has now thrown out the race card saying her colour was the reason she was sent away. Anyone else think this is a bunch of crap? Ever think to arrange something like this beforehand Ms Winfrey? they had something else on the go. Not everyone is going to cowtow to you because of money.

I don't know the whole story, but from what I originally heard, someone in the store (who obviously didn't know who she was) made some comment about having a lot of trouble with North Africans lately (apparently oprah was kinda bunning around in her schlepping around clothes, though I'm sure he bumming around clotes are still pretty nice).
Anyway, if comments like that were made, then more power to her. If it really was just a case of something else going on there (which I kinda doubt, it seems like a cover up, and I really wouldn't be supprised to hear comments like that from a super up-scale store in Paris), the she needs to chill out.

Ah, that I hadn't heard. If that's the case, maybe she has a point. But she sounded pretty whiny the first time I heard about it. And she really should have sent a representative to the store earlier to arrange something.

To be perfectly fair, any store that sells scarves for $1000 is probably doing people a favor by not letting them in.

I would have to disagree with fotze and the fact that it is Oprah I would tend to believe the store and am not surprised that she is throwing out the race card.

The story that was on CNN was along the following lines:

The store said the incident occurred on June 14 around 6:45 p.m., about 15 minutes after the store closed. It said Winfrey and her team arrived at a time when "a private PR event was being set up inside."

Harpo Productions spokeswoman Michelle McIntyre said Winfrey "will discuss her 'crash moment' when her show returns from hiatus in September."

"Crash" is a film dealing with race relations. The phrase "crash moment" refers to situations where a party feels discriminated against on the basis of skin color.

The Daily News reported Winfrey had gone to the store to buy a watch for singer Tina Turner, her dining partner that night.

I don't know about you, but I personally am not going to take the NYPost's word on anything, with out hearing it from 2 or 3 other sources first.

Man, who the hell does Oprah think she is?

If a store is closed to the public (it was closed for 15 minutes at that point) should people fall all over themselves when an almighty famous person arrives and asks to come in? I don't think so.

Now, if the store was involved in another private event when she was turned away then Oprah really needs to get over herself.

Just because she was turned away does not make it about race.

It makes me wonder what she's really mad about: Being turned away from the store after it was closed or the fact that, for once, being Oprah didn't grant her preferential treatment.

no, id hit it too.............. with a shovle. but oprah is out to lunch on this one, give me a break she couldnt get into a store and it makes the NY times. i have never been allowed into cowboys, wheres my "scar" discrimination article in the calgary sun? I'm a ###### becuase I don't sympathize with Oprah?

Actually, I know very well what it's like to be denied entry because of skin colour.
It happens to me just about everytime I try to go to a Calgary nightclub. If anyone here can relate to her ordeal, it would be me.
If I actually believed that this was racial discrimination, I would be amongst the first to support Oprah.
I just find it very hard to believe that the richest women in the world would be denied entry into a clothing store for any other reason than it was closed.
