Default Victim of Hit and Run

Hey guys,

looking for some help,

I was working tonight and when i came back to my car there was a big dent and scratch on the passenger side. I was wondering if anyone knows how it works if i were to make a claim with my insurance agency. I have full coverage including collision, am i still responsible for paying my deductible?

I am filling out a police report tomorrow does this impact it at all?

Any help at all is extremely appreciated!

You will have to pay a deductible. Filling out a police report serves as an official record of the claim, but doesn't impact your particular claim in any other way. If it was a major accident or a vehicle theft, it would be different.

I had the same thing happen to me last fall when somebody dented my drivers side door when I was at the shopping mall. Had to pay deductible and go through the inconvenience of getting a loaner car while my car was in the shop getting the dent pulled out and the door repainted. Pain in the ass for sure. Nothing you can do about it.

Most companys will give you a "free" one but beware if you shop for a new company in the next 3 years it will be on your record and affect you. If the damage is affordable just get it fixed on your own, you never know when you'll really need that "free" one.

My insurance was $36 dollars more this year, but I think that small of an increase is somewhat normal.

The repair estimate was just short of $1000, and the dent wasn't that huge.
