Default Any sites of interest or good eats in Winnipeg?

So there's a chance that I may need to leave for Winnipeg soon for a business trip. Likely just for a night or at most, two nights. I would, at the very least, have two meetings, two hours in the morning and a two hour in the early evening, so I'll have some plenty of free time in the afternoon and evening to do stuff.

Can anyone recommend anything to see or do in Winnipeg?
Is the Assinboine Zoo worth checking out?

Also, feel free to lay on the "Goin' to Winnipeg" jokes, but I need some serious answers

Just ask the concierge, a concierge is the Winnipeg equivalent of a geisha.

Your company probably tells you to cancel.

Wouldn't worry about it.

My Japanese friend tells me Geisha means hooker in Japanese.

I'm cringing already with the idea of a Winnipeg concierge

The Canadian Museum of Human Rights is a stunning building, and the family and I quite enjoyed it when we went through two years ago.

I also love walking through the Exchange District (realize this could be a tough time of year for that). I am so jealous of the old buildings they have there, if only we could steal them somehow. Just plop them down in our core.

Jeanne’s Bakery on Notre Dame.

Sausage Makers on Nairn for some great Ukrainian garlic sausage.

Alycia’s Ukrainian food.

The Forks is nice if they weather is OK.. but you can get through it rather quickly.

Don’t go to Jeanne’s bakery on Norte Dane, super sketchy area. You can get the cake at any Family Foods.

The forks has some decent food, the exchange for some craft beer, Corydon Ave for Italian, and the zoo is north worth checking out. It is embarrassing compared to the zoo here. 529 Wellington is a great steakhouse near the downtown area.

What you should really do is avoid the trip if at all possible though, Winnipeg is not a great trip.

Baked expectations on Osborne for dessert

Noodle world in Chinatown or Sam Po are delicious. Cheap Chinese food, really good

Lots and lots of good eats and selection. I'll do some more thinking and post up again

Ya, can't lie to the guy. I am happy to be from there, and to never go back. Still cheer for the team though.

If you like sweets, you could try Oh Doughnuts! Their donuts are really good.

I went to Hermano’s steakhouse a couple of years back. South American style place. It was pretty good.

That’s all I’ve got.

I went there last fall and went to Ye’s Buffet.

It was a revelation, pretty much unlimited choice of buffet style food. The food itself is not mindblowing or anything, just solid, but the sheer variety blew me away. I want to get the same experience in Alberta somewhere but I don’t know where to go.

Winnipeg is awesome!

For breakfast go to Clementines at 123 Princess St, in the exchange district.

If you like tapas, go to segovia.. 484 Stradbrook Ave. It's one of the best restaurants in Canada.

If you want some take out Ukrainian food, Kozak on Ness. Alicia's is closed and only caters now. Kozak will set you up nice.

Osbourne village is an awesome place to go and visit. The museum of human rights is also really impressive and a world class museum.

The exchange district is a great walk,as mentioned.

I'm going back in July and I can't wait. Here is a list of places I'm going to visit next time:

VJ's Drive Inn
170 Main St, Winnipeg, MB

Marion Street Eatery
393b Marion St, Winnipeg, MB

Harth Mozza & Wine Bar
1-980 St Anne's Rd, Winnipeg, MB

Papa Carlo Pizzeria & Gelati
5759 Hwy 9 #200, Lockport, MB

Sargent Taco Shop
698 Sargent Ave, Winnipeg, MB

Bistro Dansk
63 Sherbrook St, Winnipeg, MB

La Garage Cafe
166 Provencher Blvd, Winnipeg
