Dad kills his own son, in attempted burglary
Quote:
A man fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense outside his neighbor's house during what appeared to be an attempted late-night burglary and then discovered it was his son, state police said.
|
Quote:
A woman who was alone in the house believed someone was breaking in and called the teen's father, who lives next door, and he grabbed a gun and went outside to investigate, police said.
The father confronted someone wearing a black ski mask and black clothing and then fired his gun when the person went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand, police said.
|
This is one sad and odd story, it sounds like intended to burglarize his dad's house, but I am assuming he lived there too. This is one of the reasons I am against guns, but I fully support non lethal self defence weapons such as pepper spray.
Edit: on second reading I realized that yes the son was trying to break in to the neigbours house.

If I read it correctly, the teen was trying to rob the neighbour's house; who which called the teen's father (neighbour), who came out and shot the kid.
Still, as sad as it is, people who break into other people's houses are taking their lives into their own hands and I have zero sympathy.

Not really sad. Maybe if it was a misunderstanding, but he wore a ski mask and went at him with a weapon. If you are a burglar in the states you really are playing with your life.

Not sure how a dad killing his own son isn't sad, regardless of the circumstances.
Even though he was committing a crime, a father shot, and killed, his own son. Pretty damn sad.

It's sad, by if you're the son, why would you lunge at your own dad with a weapon? Clearly you can see that it's him, no?
Maybe they didn't get along, seems like there's more to this story...

^ Well it's late at night, and you're wearing a ski mask, probably very on edge to make sure nobody sees you. I'm sure if you see a figure coming towards you with a gun you might not immediatly recognize it's your dad.

Well... I'd be more worried about lunging at someone who actually has a gun, when you don't.
Plus, I don't imagine that it's hard to notice that, yeah... that's your DAD holding that AK-47. You've got a shiny metal object in your hand, likely not a gun. Best case scenario is to lunge at the guy with the gun full-force in order to disarm him; you don't want any problems now! It's best to disarm your dad.

Not exactly, but made me think of this:
An ex-boyfriend of mine was drunk one night and took his dad's truck out for a spin (yes, drunk driving is bad, but this was in a time when it wasn't frowned on as much as it is now...)
Dad called the police to report the truck stolen. The cops pulled up behind the truck with their lights on. The ex had previously been to jail (yes, I dated some reputable men) and I guess didn't want to go back.
So in a drunken incoherent state grabbed his dad's gun from the back (dad was a hunter I think? that's why there was a gun in the vehicle) and killed himself.
To this day, I think his dad blames himself for the death of his son. If he had only known it was his son that had taken the truck, and if he didn't call the police and if he didn't have his gun in the truck, maybe his son would be here today.
Sad.

You guys aren't feeling sad for the son, but there's somebody else who has to live with this for the rest of his life. I'm confused how there can be "zero sympathy".

He should have raised a better son and then he wouldnt have been in this situation in the first place.

Because the son in the OP was willing to attack his own father (or anyone for that matter), you will never get my sympathy for anyone that misses him.
Should I feel bad for James Holmes parents when he eventually gets the injection?
I'd be more willing to feel sympathy for the fact that they actually raised such a terrible person and feel like incompetent parents then for the death of their scumbag son.

What?? James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 58. For all we know, this kid might have just been trying raid a liquor cabinet. He probably realized he was busted and was trying to get away.

I do tend to agree with you, somewhat. A gun should never be used to defend personal property. Dood grabbing a gun because of a break-in in his nieghbors house is just dumb. First thing he shoud have done is called police. That being said, I would much rather have a gun then not. If I was asleep in bed with my significant other and I heard a window break downstairs. I'd be locking the bedroom door, calling the cops and then hunker down with a gun. If dood decided he was going to bust through the locked door, all bets are off. I'm lighting that guy up. Have at my property, fine, but the second you bust into a room that has me and the one I love, I'm defending both.
