Just installed it on my iPhone. Called my parents in Winnipeg; I could hear them fine but my dad said the odd word would cut out. That was using 3G- I guess I'll see how wifi works when I get home.

let me know how it continues to work ken...FREE LD on cell is a great idea.
Did you get a different phone number? If so how does it work with a separate number?

You do get a separate number when you sign up your Dell Voice account. If people want to call your Dell Voice number, they just dial the number like any other.

I have tested it on 3G and Wifi and it works great on both. I wish it could do US calls as well

Yeah, I got a number with a 587 area code. The bad part is they don't give you a list of numbers; they say "would you like this number." If you say no, and the next number is worse; you can't go back. And it only lets you cycle through 3 or 4 numbers.

It does run very much like your regular phone app; and it does also have access to your contact list so you can call people directly from there. Also- if you want to check the rates you can enter the number and press "World Rate" before hitting "Call." It will tell you if there is a charge. You do need to pre-load your phone in $5 increments to call any number that has a charge; which is understandable.

There is a small banner with Dell ads; but it isn't in your face or anything.

If this app continues to work well I may get my brother in law to set it up on his phone in the Philippines and give him a Calgary phone number. That way we should be able to call him for free.

Used this as a local # for people to call when I was travelling in Europe. With a European sim card and some data people could call the 587 number and have it be local for them. I could also call them with the app- all for free. Tremendous app. (iPhone)

Usually it works pretty good. I use it to call the family when traveling. Sometimes it won't answer, but I just call back. It could also be because my 3GS has horrible lag when doing anything.

I honestly don't get why cell phone companies don't do this. Yes, I realize they want to continue to rip us off with obscene prices, but everyone has a smartphone with a data plan these days, and they could easily develop an app like this, and offer it for a fee to subscribers. Optimize the network to ensure good voice quality, and just let people know that they're using their data plan when they make a call through the app.

In fact, Telus, Bell or Rogers could just buy one of the companies already doing this and just optimize the app for their own network. Would anyone here pay $5 for an app that basically gives you unlimited calling? I would. I think everyone else would too.

I've been using it for 3+ months. I was looking for an option to transfer my home phone number to as I don't really use it. I have an awesome number and wanted to keep it until the day comes where I might want a home phone again. I paid the $25 to transfer my home number to it and mostly just use it to collect voice mail for people/businesses that still call my home number. I use my cell for most of my calling and Google Talk via Talkatone on my cell for any long distance calling. I have used the service to answer calls now and then and find the quality to be decent.

The only thing that bothers me about DV is that I can't use my account on both Android and IOS. I signed up for an account on my iPhone, and then was unable to login on my tablet because my account was created on an Apple device. That kinda bugs me, but otherwise it's a great app.

Just a bump- the latest update on Dell Voice adds SMS text messaging.

Edit- looks like it isn't free. A few bucks per month depending on how many months you buy.
