Default Rogers buys the score

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/08/25...buys-the-score

Rogers has bought all shares of the score, for 167 million.

Quote:
We continue to pursue opportunities to engage, expand and enhance the experience for sports fans. Rogers Media is on a growth trajectory and this builds on our momentum of delivering world-class sports content anywhere, anytime, on any platform," Keith Pelley, president of Rogers Media, said in a statement issued Saturday morning. "theScore is a tremendous sports service that offers a distinct flavour of premium, niche programming that fits squarely within our strategy of delivering highly sought-after content to Canadians."

I used to really enjoy The Score about a decade ago - recently it has been producing content that is laughably low budget. "Let's ask a bunch of losers in t-shirts what they think of topic X and we'll film it!"

That loud mouthed ginger on the score is the worst. Please make the deal conditional upon his banishment from all forms of Canadian sports television.

They should go back to Headline Sports. Just give me highlights 24/7.

Have the extended highlight packages for all the major 4 sports leagues plus the CFL. Then show highlights of TFC, Montreal Impact, and Vancouver Whitecaps. The short highlights of the English Premiere League, as well as the other big clubs.

Show the highlights of CHL teams that are currently in the top 10, the scores from the rest of the CHL.

Put up scores of CIS, show highlights of the playoffs.

I believe there is a demand for a 24/7 sports highlight station, I don't think cable saturation and the internet changed that. Somehow the Score thought Horse Racing, Poker, and random people talking sports was what the public wanted.

Frankly I don't care about the great opinions, if I'm watching TV I want analysis. If you don't give me analysis, show me the score.

I agree for the most part but I would expand the highlights further and show AHL highlights and CHL highlights from as many games as possible.

Snet also has room on their regional networks and Snet one for the programs on the Score that actually have viewership (which is probably just Raw and Smackdown).

If they are going to continue with showing 2nd and 3rd teir events, maybe they could become the the home of more CHL games and maybe even AHL games.

I'd like more amateur sports coverage. TSN, RSN and the Score seem to only carry major pro sports. I want more junior and university hockey, more local track and field, more local basketball, more junior football (who am I kidding as far as out sports networks are concerned this league doesn't exist).

How will they have time to show 20hrs of Horse Racing per day if they show all that?

Really local sports/events like that might be a tough sell to advertisers.

Yes, nothing draws in a national sports audience better than local track and field highlights.

My god, even low budget, local news stations know not to spend more than five seconds on local track and field highlights.

I mean seriously, you could show a seniors home bingo tournament, and it would retain more viewers than local track and field highlights.

Well there are 8 eight English Canadian sports channels. If they can't supply some local content beyond pro sports, I question their licensing.

Well I'm a sportsfan, so I like a wide range of sporting events and would like to see athletes progress towards the Olympics, not just see these faceless people as they arrive. Everyone is free to pick their poison but I'd like more variety than pro sports.

I dunno, I think Tim and Sid, and James Sharman are still awesome.

Wonder if they would be willing to show FC Edmonton games? Probably wouldn't have good ratings either.
