Default London 2012 Olympic TV rataings.

It has been a fantastic to watch these Olympics, especially live regardless of what time certain events are on.

The opening ceremonies had 6,354,000 viewers. The preview just before the ceremonies had 1,550,000 viewers. These numbers are a total of french and english viewers. The ratings are from just the first weekend of the Summer Games.

They would be higher if I were hosting j/k.

I think the London timezone is good for ratings. During the day people at home and all the offices/business have the tvs on all day. Then at night people who missed it will watch or people who want to watch in a nice packaged format with interviews and stuff.

Sochi is 3 hours ahead of London, they might be a problem.

Beijing was the worst because when Primetime came on, there were already live morning events but mostly those nobody wants to see (qualifying). All the main events were at 5am and from 5am back to primetime again, people aren't going to wait.

And also we live in a pre-dominantly British culture in Canada so they'll tune in to see their culture at the opening ceremonies.

It depends which timezone one lives in when comparing time from the Olympic city. London is eight hours from Pacific time and I agree that for most of the work day people can watch events live until 1500h Pacific.

Sydney, Australia and Nagano, Japan were the worst with a 17 hour time difference. Seoul, South Korea has a 16 hour difference and Beijing, China has a 15 hour difference.

Sochi, Russia will have a twelve hour time difference during their winter games and will be four hours ahead of London because Sochi does not observe daylight saving time.

I think when you talk about ratings, you're predominantly talking about Eastern Time where the majority of the population is.

London Olympics in the East goes live until around 6pm every night... one hour for the news and it's right into the primetime review show. It's almost seamless.

This means I am going to have to start drinking really early for Team Canada hockey games!

It is similar for all time zones for the seamless programming. The best is having all the timeshifter and french channels so there is never any break from the Olympics! I will have to catch up on the news after the games are over.

You probably know but, here in British Columbia, the live programming on the CTV goes until 1500h, then followed by three hours of highlights and review which is basically the primetime show until 1800h.

The Mountain time zone goes live until 1600h and then two hours of highlights and review. Central viewers go live until 1700h with one hour of review.

Everyone gets their one hour of local news at 1800h local and then the primetime show until 2300h followed by the national and local news until midnight. The exception is for the Atlantic and Newfoundland timezones which are in sync with eastern programming times during the Olympics.

The primetime show in the eastern timezone is repeated from midnight to four and after four it is live programming. Central timezone, primetime is repeated for only three hours from midnight to three and then live. Less repeating of primetime the further west you go.
