What do the people here think? I don't know if I'd jump right on board for kicking them out of confederation but if things don't improve drastically I could/would back it as a last resort.
This has been going on for how long? How many billions and billions of dollars have been wasted on the issue alone, let alone placating them?
It will be one of the happiest days of my life when Quebec is kicked out. They contribute absolutely nothing to Canada. All they do is take, take, and take some more.
They remind me of the people on the intervention shows. The therapist should be telling the rest of Canada, that we are only enabling them, when we give them whatever they want. They should be telling us that we need to let them go, it's better for all concerned, but hopefully they wise up and change their ways.
I like how the PQ is telling people on the campaign trail that getting rid of Canada would mean better health care in the province.
On the other hand, sovereignty is something of a dying topic in Quebec. Voting PQ doesn't mean you're voting for separation. It means you're voting against the Liberals.
Just because Canada wants Quebec to leave, doesn't mean Quebec would actually do so.

That poll is useless without the findings of similar polls in the past. "Divide deepens" implies a growing number of people are good with Quebec leaving, but there is no proof of that in the article, which seems designed to stir up controversy.

I have missed something, what are they doing thats all bad and that is getting worse. They are the prodigal son of the family. They are constantly going to school at the expense of your share of the inheritance, but they are hella interesting, with better food and culture and hot chicks. Without them we are a lot lamer.
One great weekend in Montreal is all it takes to forgive a lot of the crap they pull.
On a side note, how the hell did the Americans end up owning so much of the BC coastline?
Because the British sold us out. It was land claimed by Russia and offered to England, but England turned it down to improve relations with the Americans who had their eye on it. Then Canada negotiated the boundary poorly after the Americans bought the land from Russia.
I was recently reading about BC and confederation, and they were really close to joining the U.S. as well, so I guess we got lucky there. Their infrastructure and economy were more closely linked to San Francisco than the rest of Canada at the time.

I think the approach that needs to be taken needs to shift into much more stick than carrot. The problem is they are swing voters and therefore need to be bought.
I don't understand what kicking them would look like. We would need to quit subsidizing. them to the current extent and eventually they vote to leave. I would be okay with an approach like that but it won't happen because Quebec is an easy place to buy votes.
For all the haranguing about Quebec sucking the rest of the country dry, the Maritimes are a much bigger money pit. Here's the federal money that goes in and out of each area:
QC (7.75 million people):
Federal Revenue: $39.7 billion ($5122 per person)
Federal Expenditures: $53.3 billion ($6877 per person)
Deficit: $13.6 billion ($1755 per person)
NS, NB, PE, and NF (2.3 million combined):
Federal Revenue: $13.3 billion ($5782 per person)
Federal Expenditures: $29.2 billion ($12691 per person)
Deficit: $15.9 billion ($6909 per person)

Meh we are tame with them and maybe a little more tame without them but with a heck of a lot more money and a lot less political issues.
Francois Legault says he doesn’t regret suggesting this week that young Quebeckers are more interested in living “the good life” and could learn a thing or two from their harder-working Asian counterparts.
I find his comment intresting, and obivously were not ment to be racist to asians, however, if they are actually racist or not, I have no idea.
The one thing I support here for sure: he stuck to what he said and didn't try to muddle the past, rare for someone in politics:
Quote:
In fact, Mr. Legault said Tuesday of his observation: “I’m sticking to it.”
EDIT: He also gave a shout-out to engineers, so he is good in my books!

Right, so we should just chop off anything east of Ontario?
