Not sure how much interest there is for people to travel to see the games in person, but the Olympic GDT got me thinking that there might be other crazy people that might want to go in the future.
Normally, I believe tickets are on a lottery system that is pretty hit or miss but if you want to go all out, you might want to check out
https://www.cosport.com/ (I remember A LOT of ticket scam websites popped up for Beijing and Vancouver but I think they are exclusive sellers to a bunch of different countries.) They sell individual tickets, ticket packages of similar sports, and all-out hospitality packages that include hotel, airport transfers (no airfare though), dining, transportation to and from the events, and of course the tickets. Tickets come in an A and B grade - and are not lottery based but first come, first served. And it looks like they have some tickets left for the Mens Basketball Gold Medal game today as of this post!
Prices range wildly depending on the scope and individual event tickets included. But the largest packages span over more than a week and usually include the opening or the closing ceremonies - and can cost as much as $15,000 - $25,000.
I ended up going for a package in the later-half of the Beijing games as I generally wanted to see the gold medal finals along with the closing ceremonies. My package included their Grade A tickets to:
Beach Volleyball Gold Medal Games – Grade A front row center seat was simply amazing; also great for the bikini entertainment during breaks.
Rhythmic Gymnastics – not my first choice but part of the package. Though I got to meet the Canadian coaches and the family of the Canadian competitor. Such nice people.
Diving – ironically I didn’t see any Vancouver Canucks there . . .

Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Final – ahhh those obnoxious American fans.

Table Tennis Finals – oh man, in CHINA no less. Hell yeah.

Track and Field – So much build up to the 100m and it’s over so fast – and so many events so see in one place.
The transportation to and from the events was great to have and saved a lot of worry. You even got to bypass everybody else to the front of the line for everything with the fancy pass they provided. Hell, they even gave us a pass that got us into the Athlete’s Village to mingle and eat there!
Anyhow, it is clearly pricey to attend the Olympics in any city - but if you are willing to pay for a worry-free chance to do something like this, maybe the website is worth a look. I really don’t want to sound like “Champion” but I found the experience in Beijing to be really amazing.
But . . . like Fotze pointed out elsewhere – you might be better off spending the money on something more tangible and responsible like real estate instead of having the tickets and souvenirs on your mantle and the Olympic experience in a foreign country. And he certainly may be pragmatically correct.
