Default questions to the cigar smokers and travellers.

So I'm off to asia next week. Normally i buy some cigars when i go since it is extremely expensive there and considering the many indoor smoking areas there are. I'm transfering planes at the Seattle airport and wanted to ask... Since US bans Cuban cigars, if i take cigars with me from Calgary, would it still not be allowed?

I've also had friends recommend removing the bands, less they say Habana. Honestly unless you're planning on taking a whole box (or more) I wouldn't worry too much. Pop off the bands, pack em into your luggage and claim their a Dominican house brand if you get asked.

I've had a border agent in Montana almost confiscate my actual Dominican cigars because I couldn't prove they weren't Cubans.

Did he realize that you can't prove a negative?

Well, she let me go with them. Turns out they were actually fake Cohibas (I knew nothing about cigars at the time and got completely screwed), so they didn't have the normal markings. She thought I re-badged Cubans or something.

I'm planning on putting it in my luggage instead of carrying them with me. I'll probably buying the smaller ones which are still hand rolled but since its a transfer at seattle, i was getting worried that they would delay my flight as a result
