Default Century Homes in Calgary (built 1915 or earlier)

Just wondering if anyone is participating in the Century Homes project -- it runs from July 27 to August 6: http://www.centuryhomes.org/

Surely there are some CP latte drinking one-percenters from Sunnyside who would qualify

I used that site as a resource to do some research on my house and the in-laws. I actually was able to track down a picture of one of the first owners of my in-law's house which was neat/creepy. Is there any reason to formally join besides the sign and such?

I'm looking forward to checking out the homes in our neighbourhood that have signed up for this.

Not really any incentive other than to find information and to share it with others. The information does get archived though:

The research gathered by participating homeowners will be captured in a digital record for the Calgary Public Library’s local history room. The stories and photos of the participating herritage homes will be available to the public for future research and provides a basis to expand the City of Calgary’s Inventory of Historic Resources.

Bump -- if anyone is interested, a map of participating homes can be found here: http://www.centuryhomes.org/tourmap/

Apparently there are three separate walking tours scheduled for Bankview.

Did a tour of this today - cycled around Hillhurst and Sunalta to check out ones in those areas as they had good clusters of them making them easy to get to.

Props to the organizers of this - and to the participants of course. Cool to see the history behind some of these places. In this sea of cookie cutter suburbia (I grew up in Edgemont), it was quite interesting to see places with a bit of history to them. Like ones left empty after WW1 due to someone being KIA. Lots of Sears homes in Hillhurst costing $2,000....now worth $500K for the lot alone.

Just a tip for participants - put your details sign somewhere close to the sidewalk where people can read them easily, unless you want us in your front yard. The best details sign had examples of the materials over the years (ie 5 types of flooring) taped to the sign.

We've walked by about a dozen of them in Sunnyside, agreed that it is very cool to read about the history of the homes. Some of the participants really dug into the history and came up with all sorts of cool information.

I thought there were some homes in Dover estates that would qualify?
