Default Olympic GDT - 4 August

Some Canadian athletes in action today
(UK time)

For a list of every Canadian in every event, check: http://olympic.ca/canadian-schedule

09:00 Women’s Triathlon, Hyde Park
Taking part in one of the most gruelling of Olympic events, 23-year-old Paula Findlay is currently the world’s number one and is a medal hopeful. Findlay has enjoyed a meteoric rise in her sport since her shock win in a World Series triathlon event in London in 2010. You can also cheer for Kathy Tremblay .

10:30 Badminton, Women’s Doubles, Bronze Medal match, Wembley Arena
Alexandra Bruce and Michelle Li will face a Russian team for what could be a surprise bronze medal. The women’s doubles badminton event at these Games has been dogged by controversy.

10:30 Equestrian Individual and Team Jumping First Qualifier, Greenwich Park
Eric Lamaze starts his bid to gain another Olympic gold medal with the qualifying round in Greenwich Park today. Lamaze will ride his new horse, Derly Chin de Muze, following the tragic death of his previous mount, Hickstead, last year.

14:00 Women’s Trampoline, preliminaries and final, North Greenwich Arena
The preliminaries are at 14:00, and the final is at 15:26. Karen Cockburn has won a medal at every Olympic trampoline competition since its introduction in 2000 - bronze in Sydney, silver in Athens and silver in Beijing. Karen originally began as a diver and used the trampoline as training. Rosie MacLennan is a rising star in the sport, and the Chinese are also serious contenders.

14:30 Women’s 3m Springboard Semi-Final, Aquatics Centre
Emile Heymans and Jennifer Abel are both through to the semi-finals. The duo won Canada’s first medal of the Games on July 29, and are also featured in a beautiful photo exhibit by Quebec photographer Jean-Francois Berube. It will open to the public at Canada House on Aug. 23.

19:36 Men’s 1500m Freestyle Swimming Final, Aquatic Centre
Victoria’s Ryan Cochrane, who took bronze at the 2008 Games in Beijing, will be one to watch as he battles it out for place on the podium.

What else is going on today?
Other Olympic events today include the men’s 400m round one featuring South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius; the last day of rowing at Eton Dorney; track cycling; men’s soccer quarterfinals; and men’s long jump.

Findlay isn't the world's number one.

She was at one point last year but suffered an injury and is actually kind of unknown coming into the Olympics. It looks like she got off to rough start today and likely will not medal.

Photo finish after a 2 hour race - that was amazing.

Findlay just finished with some nice applause and cheering from the crowd. Damn onions.

Zelinka has a chance. After 6 events, she sits 7th. She did steady in the javelin - a PB.

Well hopefully the Men's Final tomorrow is a bit more entertaining than that was. Serena is a machine right now, total dominance.

And while its far too early to actually get a bit excited (mid 3rd Quarter), Lithuania is leading the US in Men's Basketball.

It's on SportsNet. Of course as soon as I post that the US goes on a 7-0 run in about 40 seconds.
