At the Beijing Summer Olympics four years ago, Canada won 18 medals and placed 15th in overall medal count. The 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles was the site for the country's best Olympic performance to date with Canada winning 44 medals, including 10 gold,. These games had the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries boycotting the Games.
Go Canada!

Priscilla Lopes-Schliep didn't qualify for the Olympics, but Jessica Zelinka is the woman to watch in hurdles and heptathalon. She was amazing at the qualifiers in Calgary a few weeks back.

You are right, thanks. Fixed.

Very impressive that clara Hughes is participating in yet another Olympics.........I have some of those other athletes in my Olympic pool.
Lol... Olympic pool, now that is passion for all sports. I guess the pool is based on medal counts.
Clara Hughes, yes, it is impressive given her age and participation in both winter and summer. To be honest, I was a little surprised that she won a bronze medal in the last winter Olympics but she is a great ambassador for all things good in sports.

The Olympics are a fun time, I find myself tuning into things I normally wouldn't really care for. It's always a fun few weeks, especially during hot summer nights when there is nothing to do.
Does anyone know where we can get a tv schedule for this at?

Aren't there any goofy demonstration sports in these Olympics? I remember in 2008 there was a Wushu tournament in Beijing. There was supposed to be women's ski jumping in Vancouver but it got turfed at the last minute.
There should be an Olympic darts tournament.

Six of the eight finalists in Seoul would later fail drugs test or be implicated in their use. While before the race the IOC had largely been ambivalent on the issue, the embarrassment caused by the scandal lead to a new regime of drug testing

Nice article. Lots of ironies in this 'Canadian' history of doping in the Olympics that would later change the world's view and approach of drug use in sports. A Canadian sprinter broke OR and WR beating out his nemesis, Carl Lewis in one of the most exciting race ever but that all came to a halt when Ben was caught with steroids in his system. Charlie Francis, a Canadian sprint coach of Ben, broke it wide open with charts, graphs and confessions. It would take another Canadian, a lawyer named Dick Pound, one of those names you would associate an adult movie actor with, to head WADA-making the fight against drug use in sports more successful.

You'd think they might want to save their energy.
But it seems that Olympic athletes will be working up more of a sweat off the field than they will on it this Summer.
In a sign of what the world's fittest sportsmen and women get up to in the Olympic village, a record 150,000 free condoms - 15 for each competitor - have been made available to them.
Seriously though is there any BS sports that I can get into? Even one that is only a trial sport?
I know that's a British paper so it is a tad gossipy but if that's even close to being true the Olympics are basically a cover for a giant orgy that takes place for 15 days in the village.
Everything that I have ever heard about the Olympic village indicates that it is a giant orgy.
I have tickets to weight lifting, football (Gabon vs. South Korea), and beach volleyball. Looking forward to the events, not getting to and from them though. I will try and post some photos after the events.
