Default Microsoft Makes Web Mail That Doesn't Suck (Haha yeah, for serious)

MS just keep doing things that makes me think they're not sleeping at the wheel anymore. I'm loving this UI it's cool that the back button works. And I love how I can use it without wanting to put out a cigar in my eyeball.

It does some very interesting other things, such as:

- Outlook integration

- ActiveSync push email for mobile devices (may have already existed in Hotmail?)

- large attachments go as links to a Skydrive hosted file

- aggregates multiple POP email accounts (this is basically how BIS on Blackberry used to work - you supply credentials to your other email providers, such as Shaw, Telus, GMail, etc, and it logs in on your behalf and pulls the mail into your Outlook.com account)

The last feature in particular is very powerful - it essentially push-enables all of your various email accounts.

Given that it does Activesync, and I'm hoping/guessing EWS (Exchange Web Services) on the backend since Outlook is supported as a full client, I wonder if other Outlook features like calendar and inbox delegation might be coming down the pipe as well.

In other news I heard Microsoft is interested in developing something called a 'social network' for its users.

It's funny because in that article it says 80% of gmail users were willing to switch. I find myself in that 80% but I couldn't say why.

Since it's a new service it's easy to get prime email addresses right now; I was able to get an address that was just my name @outlook.com - no numbers after, no weird nicknames.

Automatically works with your hotmail address. Not bad. Not sure I want to switch though.

I still like Gmail, but I like having an alternate and this will allow a fresh start as my Hotmail account needed a weird user name (as per the post above) and is too clogged with crap.
