So I'm Pretty Mad at Shaw right now
We've been with Shaw for just over 10 years now, and we noticed that our bills were just too high compared to everyone else's, on Friday Dec. 30 we called Shaw to set up a new personalized bundle that included our phone, internet and TV. I spent a good 45 mins on the phone with a lady from their customer loyalty department, and we set up a package that came out to $135, but decided not to go for it right then. Later on that night, I went back to site and set up a package for $144.90 and ordered it through their online order process, which stated that a rep would call us back within ONE business day. No one called as of Monday Jan 3, so i called Shaw and they said they don't have access to those orders, but they could set it up and help me out. Well we went through it all and now the package is $164.90. They said no one there has the authority to override those prices/packages, and that i should wait one more day to see if their online team calls me as they actually have 72 hours to call us back (according to the rep), if not call them back. The rep straight up told me that if I end up having to call back, they can't honor that price. Does anyone have any advice that could help, other then switch to telus? Is this a cause of bait and switch, and if so what can we do?
(for the record, i kept it really cool on the phone, and even made the reps laugh once or twice even though i was transferred 4 times)
-sorry for the length

Do what I did. Cancel everything except basic high speed internet.
-Get an HMA account.
-Get Apple TV.
-Get US Netflix and Centre Ice package from US IP.
-And let shaw know, you are using their internet service against them to get illegal US content at a fraction of the cost.
Shaw can rot in hell. I hate that company.

Every time they send me a reply envelope in their new offers I get in the mail, I grab every other piece of junk mail I get and put it into that shaw envelope. Might as well send them a nice full letter of garbage and make them pay for the postage on top of it.

I know people that switch every 6 months to take advantages of offers and deals and loyalty programs. That's really how you save money. You can't stick with them too long or they just take advantage of you.

I'd say give them tomorrow to call you back. I've never worked for a cable company, but keep in mind we are just coming off the holidays. Whether it's staffing or maybe just busy (people bought Gateway?), I don't think it's unreasonable given the date. But of course, IMO

I think I spent over 10 hours on the phone between Shaw and Telus about 3 weeks ago,
I called Shaw much as you did to get a better deal, I got elevated to their loyalty department, where I was told I just came off a loyalty promotion a few months ago and there was no way I could get a better deal then I was currently on. I asked the rep if I had to go through the whole ordeal of setting up with Telus and canceling before I got offered a better deal. I was told go ahead there would be no better offer.
So I set up with Telus and call Shaw to cancel. when asked why, I said I'm very unsatisfied with the price of my current package, and that I'm even more disappointed with their customer service.
Surprise there is a better deal.
I now have Shaw Gateway w/ two portals, full HD TV, Broadband 50, and phone for $98 + tax/month with no time limit.
I'm kind of happy as I really didn't want to change all of my e-mails I've had for the last 7 years.

That's awsomee to know Grimbl. I'm kind of in the same boat...just got off one of their retention deals a couple months ago. Now, I don't want to have to pay more, and was told there were no more "deals".
So yeah...don't really want the hassle of switching providers, but would hesitantly, so was kind of wondering if they'd pull out any last minute stops. I might have to give it a try.

I am surprised anyone would deliberately switch to TELUS, where they have what I describe as Anti-Help Lines. It's like they're deliberately trying to screw with your head.
The lesson in this thread seems to be that they're all terrible and Canadians could benefit from more competition.

Same thing recently, over 10 year customer saw that their online prices were pretty cheap so called in. Then I found out that the rentals for the hd or pvr boxes are 3 year terms and if you cancel you have to pay out the remaining. Even worse than Telus at least you know you are in a contract and they won't raise the prices in 3 years, plus a free tablet. Also notice the wait times on the phone for them is longer than Telus....shaw used to be good going downhill fast.

I don't even get why you called them today. There hasn't been a business day since Dec. 30.

3 year term? You mean the interest free purchase payment plan? Is it really surprising that if you purchase something, you actually need to pay for it? That's not the same as paying out a contract.

Every current Shaw customer can get the existing deal of a Gateway system, 2 portals, internet BB50, and home phone for $100 a month.
You just need to speak to the right CSR... it's all the luck of the draw.

I mean if you don't want to fork out the money to buy the portals or older hd boxes and want to rent them. If you do get lucky with a CSR make sure that you aren't somehow locked into the equipment for 36 months unless thats what you want.

What did you expect? This is Canada where customer service doesn't exist.

Wow, I have to wash the gayness off of me after reading that comment.
Hide my ass. For 70 bucks a year, you get a VPN that gives you IP addresses in any part of the world you want. So you can get around content restrictions. You just need to make sure your router is compatible.
Shaw is without a doubt the biggest piece of crap company in Alberta. 5 years ago, they were ok, now their customer service is absolutely firkin atrocious. I have screen shots of my phone with 2+ hour hold times to cancel. Twice I had to wait, then eventually hang up. When the girl picked up the phone and even offered me a very good deal to stay, I told her to stuff it. Any company that makes you hold for 2 hours, to get the chance to sweet talk you into staying, can lick my taint. If you are gonna try and talk me into staying, you better pick it up within 30 seconds. Shaw is a great example of how the CRTC monopoly, total makes companies not give a flying you know what.
