Harper: Calgary is the greatest city, in the greatest county in the world
on the front page of today's National Post there is an article about Harper's comments at the Stampede yesterday. During a speech he referred to Calgary as the greatest city in the country. When contacted for comment Harper's office did not renounce the comments instead saying that Harper absolutely believes it.
I am not going to get into what city is the best and all of that, I am just glad he stood his ground.
Hmm, well the riding he runs for is in Calgary...if he says anything other than Calgary he probably doesn't ever get elected in this city again, and he really can't get elected anywhere else in the country....seems simple enough to me.

Wow. What a bold move. Standing his ground on such an important issue as "greatest city in the world" in the most Conservative province in Canada. He really put himself out there.
The gist of the article seems to be how annoyed Gregor Robertson is about this.

meh, hard to get excited about a politician saying something to cater to a crowd......it is hard to believe that a truly great city would have a cab shortage, or be ruining the stampede experience for millions of francophones by not having the proper anthem before the chucks.......this just in the 1984 olympics in los angles were the greatest olympic games ever despite what the head of the ioc may have had to say about any other olympic games.

This is just part of the Sun's trolling attempts to generate a bigger controvery over the French in the anthem crap. He made these comments Friday, but only now are they getting published, just in time with the controvery they're trying to create. Quality journalism as always.
