ALL ABOARD!

There's a fire at their downtown building.
This is from kermitology (who works for Shaw): electrical fire on the 12 floor. Building evacuation and the network is at risk.

My internet is out too (shaw). Work from home Monday and get rolling blackouts; go to the office today and Internet goes out. Maybe I should have taken the week off.

Out on 10th and 5th SW apparently, although I am off work today. Apparently internet being out for 2 hours causes some paniced phone calls.
CP to the rescue on the reason, was even faster than my Shaw employee contacts.

Isn't Irvnet located in Calgary? Or is that different?

CP moved from Kelowna back to Calgary and ivrnet a few years ago now I think.
They've got multiple drops I think, but I wonder if their Shaw connection is down.

Heard Telus was poaching Shaw's big business customers, promising them install within an hour today.

Has anyone talked to Shaw to see when they expect to be back up? After the Waterford condo fire I had no Internet for three days, so hopefully this won't be a repeat of that.

Better not be, our company has been waiting 8+ weeks for several installs in Calgary and Edmonton. Those guys suck.
I'm not sure how they could install a fibre service in an hour. It would take them longer than that to prepare the paperwork...

They must be selling their residential dsl service as "well, it's better than being down". Most of the big companies downtown I know have 10gb service to a DC or co-lo like Q9 and a gig to the internet. There is no way they can light that up In under a week.
Shaw will Definetly have some damage control to do here though. I get it was a freak thing, but they should have had some sort of automated fail-over process in place.
