wow. I offered a exact same money for 3 guys...but a 3 year term seemed nuts to me. Admire the bold move by SJS. Interested to see how it pans out.

Actually a 1 year term would have been even worse in my opinion. The players would all become RFAs next year with ratings under 60 - meaning they would have to get the % raises outlined on the grid. So they'd all be making more money in years 2 and 3.

Yeah i had thought about that as well. For me the 1 year was more about evaluating the potential of the prospect. If they are worth keeping then a 10% raise in AHL dollars really isn't a big deal. It was more about the roster spot that player takes up - at least for me, that's how i looked at it.

Bold or foolish, I guess time will tell. I didn't anticipate this at all.

Yeah I had that same debate in my head (I offered 1.25/3 years to the guys taken in the 2nd round).

A lot of these guys are 92s - weird picks for the 2nd round. I was probably better off missing on them and avoiding a further roster crunch.

I stayed away from all of them ... seem like risks. I'm still surprised that some of those guys were drafted in the 2nd round ... guys like Heard didn't even dominate the league as a 20-year-old, so I was really surprised to see those guys drafted so early.
