Default Fernando Pisani, the terrible neighbour

Fernando Pisani has exploited a development permit loophole and constructed a gigantic backyard rink, half the size of an NHL rink, in his multi-million dollar neighbourhood.

His immediate neighbours are outraged given its likely negative impact on property values.

Well, we'll have to see how it looks when complete, but as of right now, it actually looks pretty good with the stone edges. No more of an eye sore than half the rock gardens in Cranston.

Nosy neighbours need to get over themselves.

I think my biggest concern if I was one of his adjacent neighbours would be the lighting he has for the rink. I would work with him to at least make sure it is shielded so that almost all the light hits the ice surface, and not the adjacent properties.

If you aare a neighbor, set up loudspeakers so whenever Pisano skates on the ice you blast abba on repeat

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright
Fernando

Mind you, he might be doing that himself

From article:

"She worries about lights, noise and late-night games involving an ex-Edmonton Oiler and some of his old Oiler pals booming slapshots off the boards and blasting apart local real estate prices.'

Yea, having a bunch of ex-nhlers playing shinny in your neighbourhood is really going to hurt your property value in Edmonton.

I'm saving for a down payment!!

Eh I can see both sides here, based on the pictures it's far from an eye sore. I suspect when it's done it would have quite a nice finished look and would match the general decor of the neighbourhood.

But it's the type of thing he should have asked permission of the neighbours adjacent to to him first and tried to reach a compromise before starting construction.

Assuming it get's completed I suspect it will end up being a non-issue in a few years times. As others have said, if you're buying luxury property in Edmonton and you have kids, finding out the neighbour is an ex-Oiler and has a permanent rink in the backyard could be a selling feature.

Ms. Klesko says she and her husband scrimped and saved for years to buy their property.

And there is the problem right there. Probably scrimping by on mortgage/car payments up to their eyeballs in debt and have nothing better to do than complain about someone with excessive spending money trying to enjoy himself. Maybe it is time they "downsized" to something a little more affordable for them.

You'd be surprised how many people are "empty millionaires". That is, they lease the Benz/RangeRover/BMW, then they beg, borrow and steal to scrounge enough cash for a massive mansion. Unfortunately, the houses are, in many cases, literally empty. It's all about keeping up with the Joneses.

If you can put an olympic sized swimming pool or a regulation sized tennis court then you should be able to put a 1/4 of an NHL sized hockey rink in your backyard.

Kind of makes it hard to sympathize with people when this is their idea of hard times. Life can be so tough.
