Does anyone else prefer threaded replies?
I know I 'm a newbie and you can slap me now but I find it easier to participate in forums where the reply goes directly below the post it's replying to, so you don't need to quote. I find it a little tough to navigate through pages and pages of quoted stuff.
Is it a lot harder/more expensive to set it up that way? I like to read the Globe and Mail and I find the comments section much more interesting and easier to read since they set it up that way. Just wondering. I like this forum and the people on it.

I'm the exact opposite.

Why fix something that isn't broken? CP is just fine the way it is.

Ok, sorry I asked. I just noticed that threads often go for pages because people quote the whole post they are replying to, it wouldn't be necessary to do that if replies were threaded.

Don't be sorry that you asked, people have differing opinions. It just depends on what you're used to.

Threaded replies in my opinion encourge hread drift and fighting. In a liner thread the main thrust of he topic usually overwelms the other noise in the thread. In a threaded reply it gives a placefor individuals discussions and fighting rather than a group discussion

I go into IMDB and my brain frikkin melts. I would love to contribute there, but I cannot logically grasp the concept. You can change the format to inline, but the problem is, nobody quotes the post they are replying to, so it just makes no sense in that format.

Calgarypuck used to be set up that way, long long ago, and it sucked.

One more vote for no threaded replies. If you have too many pages per thread, change your settings to show more posts per page.

GOAT!

The worst part about college for me was the threaded-reply layout of the mandatory discussion threads. My God, what a mess that was. The combination of people not understanding what a discussion is, people not understanding what English is and me not understanding wtf the point of the layout is... let's just say my eyes lost a lot of blood over those 3 years.

Changing to that format would be a great way to finally get rid of me.

Had an idea!
|
It would get rid of me too.
But that being said, some people quote a whole LONG post, often images or something, for no real reason at all. Drives me nuts.

Just click the little red arrow next to the posters name in a quoted message. It'll take you to the original post.
