Fraudulent liens in Alberta

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about the Alberta Lien Act. I am a contractor that has paid a sub contractor his due wages and he has signed a form saying he has been paid in full. Now he is telling me he has placed a lien on the property he worked on. Are there are any repercussions for doing so? Am I able to sue him for legal fees once I pay the lien off in trust?

It's called the Builder's Lien Act, and that is your first step, do a google search if you need self-help resources. Call a lawyer if you want something done about it. There is a possibility of repercussions for an improper lien, mostly in the form of court costs and potentially damages for 'slander of title' but the latter would be the remedy of the homeowner rather than a general contractor.

Actually I was trying to find info just before I posted this with varied success. Afterwards I discovered my answer...turns out its in section 40.
I do have a lawyer who I'll be contacting Tuesday morning to get it removed.
