Wall Mounting an LCD
I have never looked into wall mounts so I thought I would tap into the CP brain trust.
We are looking for a cheap TV to mount in our reception area to show pictures and stuff.
Can you take pretty much any LCD TV and wall mount it? Do only certain models have mounts built for them or mounts a universal thing that will work with pretty much any TV?
Here are a couple I found real quick at Bestbuy and Memex that are possibilities
Dynex 32"

LG 32"

We bought one from Monoprice. Tough to beat the price, huge selection, and the one we got is very good quality.

Edit: Most wall mounts are "universal".

There is the odd TV that doesn't have regular wall mounting holes. I believe some Panasonic Plasmas use their own mounting system. Check the specifications for distance between mounting holes and the weight of TV and buy mount to match.

The listings you posted there tell you the type of mount you need
"VESA", or Wall Mount Specs.
200mm x 100mm or 200x200mm.
You will want to find a wall mount compatible with the arrangement of the screw holes on the TV.
You could also build your own wall mount. My brother built his own wall mount, so that the TV can literally be within 1/2" from the wall.

I want to order a wall mount from them, but it seems that there are a lot of customs/tax fees you will have to pay once you order from them (in order to ship to Canada). Do those fees amount to much on top of what you pay on the site?

If you use USPS you will pretty much just add GST and a $5 charge. UPS- well bend over.
I will also add- look at your wall mounting position carefully before drilling holes into the wall. I see a lot that are higher or lower than what the person wanted, but now are stuck with it.

I'm not saying it can't happen but I've never had to pay any fees above what Monoprice says in the final price.

Looking to wall mount my Samsung 52" LCD...
Is monoprice still the place for mounts ?
For some reason I'm wary about hanging my 1200.00 dollar tv from a few bolts in wall studs so I want to do this as secure as possible...

Other places have come down in price too. Depending on what you want, Princess Auto might be an option. The mount I got for my trailer was bought at Best Buy. It was around $25; granted that was for a much smaller TV.
As for your concerns about bolts into studs; just make sure you are using lag bolts and not just screws. Lag bolts are designed to handle that much more weight. Another option if you are going to be flush mounting the TV; cut open the drywall behind and shore up the studs with another cross piece of 2x6. The TV will hide the opening; plus it makes it that much easier to run cables.

XSCargo has some cheap mounts as does that liquidation place behind the Value Village around Chinook. Bianca Amor's I think it was called? XS Cargo should list everything on their site so it'd be more reliable for stock.

Not sure whether you've got wood or steel studs, but be aware of how much weight they can support - a friend gave away his full-motion TV mount to me because his condo has steel studs and couldn't support the weight of the bracket plus a 46" LED TV.

Although it may seem trivial, the tilt feature is quite nice because you're probably not going to watching it straight on. Mine isn't mounted overly high on the wall, but I still have it tilted slightly downward and it makes a big difference with the overall quality, plus it helps manage glare. And this is in a basement. If you're going to go over top of a fireplace on a main floor with lots of windows, the tilting will be even more beneficial.

Has anybody mounted an lcd to metal studs? I've been searching around on the internet and talking to friends for a couple days about it. The advice seems to range from "I did and it worked fine" to "you'll need to rip the majority of your wall down". My issue is that whichever all-star framed my basement used metal studs 24 inches apart, which is quite a bit wider than most I'm told.
I've found this that seems to work at that width, but I'm curious to know if anybody has actually done it.
