Default Help, Computer Won't Boot Up

Had a power disruption so the computer wasn't properly shut down......now it won't boot up.

I'm a total tech dummy, but this happened once before and I must have pushed a certain button because a screen popped up where I had a menu I could access, and ended up getting it going again.

No such luck this time.

A screen does pop up and I can briefly read something about Ctrl + A, but it quickly goes black, and then that's it.

Is she fried, or can I get it going again?

With any electronics I pull the power cable to try to reset it. You may have blown something, maybe your power supply is my first guess but there are better people than me on here to try and diagnose your problem.

You really are not giving us much to go on.

What comes up on the screen, it just says Ctrl-A and that's it?

When it goes black does everything turn off? or is it still making noise?

What model is your computer?

No, there are a bunch of words and stuff, but it goes blank so fast it's hard to pick any of it out.

I turn the computer on.

It quickly flashes "MSI Top Quality & Stabilty Mainboard"

Then it goes black.

Then a bunch of words come on, copyright stuff and "Press Ctrl +A to enter hyper drive utility"

Then it goes black again, but the computer is still running.

Open up the case and remove the battery for a few seconds then reinstall it. The same thing happened on a desktop of mine once and that was the only way I could get it to boot up properly.

Would you be able to see if it boots from a Live CD? It would confirm a lot if it was able to run. Burn the disc, put it in, and F8 should bring up your boot menu where you would select your boot options. You should the the one that says Optical drive, CD or DVD drive.

Helpful hint: Find a different computer to download and burn the Live CD :-)

If you can boot from a Live CD as Rathji suggests then probably your hardware is okay, excepting possibly your boot hard drive.

Do you have the installation CD or DVD for your operating system?
