Default Through wall exhaust fan for garage

The inside of my garage is vinyl siding, so it's a great moisture trap in the winter, and it rusts a lot of my stuff.

I was looking at this: www.wizzvent.com

I think I should be able to rig up my own for a bit cheaper.

Home Depot has this in the US, but not in Canada. Any idea where I can get something similar that I could rig to a humidistat?

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053

I can't really find anything for a through wall fan locally, and I'd rather get to see how the wiring etc works in person as anything I can buy online is severely lacking in pictures.

Looks simple enough. How do you get air back into the garage? You need some form of exchange or you will create a vacuum in the garage and rely on air leaks to replenish the air in the garage.

I'm pretty sure my overhead door has plenty of leaking air to go around.

A humidistat won't be able to handle the current for the fan...
You would need a interposing relay to switch the higher current / voltage.

I was hoping there would be a fan that would have some kind of low voltage control circuit the humidistat could integrate with, but relays are a good idea.

I'm familiar with automotive relays, I'm assuming there is something similar for 120V applications?

I haven't looked but I assume a humidistat operates on 24 VAC similar to a furnace circuit...

If the specs support 120 VAC I still don't think the current rating would support an exhaust fan.

I meant where you power the fan independently from 120V through a relay that is triggered by 24V.

Yeah but where do you get the 24 VAC...a doorbell transformer would work...

I see what you did there. Didn't think of that.

I should just spring the $200 for the ready to go one...
