Default First PC Caucus Meeting Today

I am wondering if anyone has heard whether Redford has collected those cheques from the no-meet committee members yet? If not, are those MLA's banned from the caucus meeting as Redford said they would be?

If you lost your seat in the election or just decided not to run, do you still have to pay the money back?

I remember hearing about a candidate who lost who said they were not paying it back. I totally forgot to look it up until now, anyone know who it was?

edit: Apparently, it was Paul Hinman, who said he didn't get any money for the committee in the first place, since he was on others as well. Makes sense.

IIRC his original comments were actually that the public shouldbe paying him more money than the cash he received for that committee. Something like "hundreds of thousands of dollars".

I can't imagine that any of the members who retired or weren't reelected are going to pay back the money.

I guess an promise made during an election really only counts if you get elected. We shouldn't really expect anything more from people, but for some reason I do.

A little off topic, but relevant. The MLA Pay Committee report came in.

http://calgary.openfile.ca/blog/cura...-raise-premier (I also know that it's openfile, but it's the first article I've seen to talk about the suggested pay structure)

Quote:
MLA base pay: $134,000 (including attendance at committee meetings), indexed to Alberta Consumer Price Index

But a $200 per meeting stipend would be paid to the chair of any assembly or committee
The $134,000 value comes from taxable $75,000 salary plus a $37,5000 tax-free allowance
Chairs and deputy chairs of committees would receive additional compensation
Cabinet ministers, speaker of the house and leader of the opposition: $201,000
Premier: Base pay of $134,000 plus additional, immediate addition of $134,000 for a total of $268,000
An increase "commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the role"
In one year, that should rise to $301,500
In two years that should rise to $335,000 to fall in line with "Alberta's highest paid public servants"

I doubt the minutes of that meeting will be made public.
