Gonna miss the all encompassing random collection of reading material from one forum. Also detracts from getting help due to less views.
Totally understand the thinking though.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I liked off topic to have everything. I will just have to remember to look there for threads I like I suppose.

Yeah splitting is always an adjustment, but when I went through the first 10 pages of threads or so to find threads to move, there were a lot of threads that I thought were good ones that probably deserved more attention but had fallen down to page 4-5 quickly.. OT hit the "too fast" line a while ago IMO.

I agree there are a lot of threads started in the OT. However, looking at the front page right now, there are 10 advice/jihad threads. A thread about Game of Thrones or another popular TV show holds interest to more people than a question about a blender imo.
I am not saying we go back but threads falling of the front page isn't necessarily because there are threads about TV shows/books/tasty burgers.

Can we please get the food threads out of there?
It's a weird random match you've made.

It wasn't meant to be random, restaurants flow pretty naturally from movies or theater, but beer and coffee grinders don't really.
There's only half a dozen food threads...

In terms of an evening sure, but it seems weird to talk about merits of story telling or critique artistic merits of a film, and in the next thread talk about whatever disgusting crust Pizza Hut is trying to kill us with.

I wasn't suggesting it was a big deal, and I do see photon's thinking... Just at the end of the day it makes the forum make sense if it's just entertainment.

I think this thread has to go.
I keep clicking on it thinking it's the link to the subforum itself. I'm quite certain I will never adapt to this.

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
Not a fan so far, but I'm likely in the minority. The actual off-topic seems dead all the time now. I know it's easy to click between them, but I find myself not really visiting the Food and Entertainment much, as there's only a couple of threads I follow there, which I end up just checking way less frequently, and it seems that many do the same, avoiding one or the other for the most part.
Just by taking a quick glance in there, to me it would seem to make sense to make more of a "TV and Movies" type subforum, as there are lots of threads about TV series and such, that very small number of posters visit and post in, and not having those in the off topic forum would keep more threads on the front page.

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
For example, right now I see about 10 or 11 threads on the first page of the food and entertainment thread that relate to my TV and Movies suggestion, and they all used to always be on the first two pages of the off topic forum, taking up real estate, with only fans of those shows/series/movies visiting the threads,a nd keeping them on the front page
On the contrary, I see lots of threads that are more appealing to the masses, aka upcoming concerts, summer festival discussion, best (insert food here) in Calgary, Stampede talk, etc.
The best example is the passing of Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. I get most of my news from CP, but had ignored the food and ent. forum because most of the threads were TV show related, and only found out about it because someone made a thread in the off topic that was locked with a final post of "there's already a thread in the food and entertainment" forum.
