my roomate and I are looking to get a dish or cable (on peasant vision now). I'm looking for any advice on where to get a deal, or what everyone thinks the best deal is. I'm not adverse to illegal dishes either, and packages including internet are things we might consider.

Any advice, please share.

Arer you in a condo? Check your bylaws 1st to see if it's OK or not.

Shaw Digital's been fine for me, no wories about dish setup or anything. I wouldn't even bother with an illegal dish right now, I hear Bell is going to be encrypting it's signal soon, making it harder to eavesdrop...

I am waiting until July 5th for Bell to come out with there HDTV-PVR.

Bell having the most HDTV channels, and a cost of 599 for above machine sealed it for me.

I have Star Choice and they've been fine. No problems.

We had American Satellite (Dish Network). Good for the price, but having to reset the card every couple of months sucked. Would recommend it if you like to watch alot of movies or PPV events, but nothing special for TV shows. I liked having the dish, as well as regular cable, because I still wanted local chanells.

Bell has their 6120 sat. system [Hi definition no Pvr] on sale for $154. I paid $399 in Dec. I don't know if this includes instalation or program credits. Customer service ranges from terrible to very good. Forget trying to pirate Bell now or in the near future. Bell also has Center Ice and TsN HD that Shaw doesn't have. You may have to or want to upgrade your TV with this system but it still works on a regular TV .

Same here, Starchoice has been great to me. Had Bell ExpressVu a couple years back but their poor customer service drove me away and I have never looked back.

I had a Direct system back when everyone had one, man do I ever miss it. I have been with Bell for quite some time now, I like them more than Starchoice, Bell seems to have better programming in my opinion
