Default Saw the CP Jihad donut thread... got me thinking.. where do you find the best donuts?

Years ago, when they used to make them right in the store, I would have said Tim Hortons. But ever since they started to make em and freeze em in Ontario and ship em out to the various franchises the quality has gone down the toilet in my opinion.

Frankly I think Safeway makes/sells better donuts than Tims.

However, there's gotta be better places than your local supermarket.

Where's your favorite place to get pastries?

From that same thread, Jelly Modern Donuts is really good.

Glamorgan Bakery, hands down. Not a huge selection, but pure quality.

I don't think there is any place worse than Tim's, be to honest. Maybe pre-packaged doughnuts?

Jelly has been good, so was Krispy Kreme (must... resist.. ranting...about... closure....)

Anyway, I like some of the Asian bakeries in Chinatown for savory buns and curry-beef filled pastries (I can't remember the bakeries' names though).

I've got to go with Jelly as well. It's the first place I've bought doughnuts where even after a day the bottom of the box did not have one grease mark on it. I like the fillings much better too. They are expensive as all get out though so its a once in awhile treat.

I just wish somewhere still made those old style Texas Doughnuts. The ones we used to get in school for $1 or $2 and were the size of a dinner plate. Overproduced, super sweet, inch thick frosting and totally awesome.

One of the guys at work brings in donuts from a bakery in Strathmore. They melt in your mouth like Krispy Kreeme; but without the blood sugar spike.

Day to day, Superstore is the best for me.
