Dick Clark, the music industry maverick, longtime TV host and powerhouse producer who changed the way we listened to pop music with "American Bandstand," and whose trademark "Rockin' Eve" became a fixture of New Year's celebrations, died today at the age of 82.
Clark's agent Paul Shefrin said in statement that the veteran host died this morning following a "massive heart attack."

Kind of fitting seeing as how there isn't going to be a New Year this year.

as much as I didn't enjoy the New Year's specials and American Bandstand, I gotta salute Dick Clark for all he did to bring rock and roll (and its future mutations) into the the mainstream.

Remember him in th 50's when he first started on tv, and rock and roll took over from the Big Band era. We used to tune in to see how our peers danced to certain songs. There were a lot of great jivers in those days. He never seemed to age with time...kept us all feeling young through the years. Rest in Peace.
