WEEK 15: Stampeders at BC LIONS
The Battle for 1st place in the West between the Calgary Stampeders (8-5) and BC Lions (9-4). The BC Lions is 5-1 against the Stampeders in the last 6 games against each other.
OFFENSE:
RB Jon Cornish, who was minus in rushing yardage the last time these two teams played against each other at McMahon Stadium, once again won the Canadian Player of the Week for the 6th time this season. He was front and centre on the Stamps victory over the Eskimos last week rushing for 180 yards and scoring 2 TD run. Cornish also broke his 1,000 yards in his CFL career with a terrific 73 yards scamper for a TD, longest run in his career.
Stampeders rushed for the total of 241 yards on the night, also another season high. They are 2nd in CFL with an average of 126 yards per game. RB Matt Walter chipped in with 55 rushing yards last week.
R Joe West had a career day in a win with 6 catches for 135 yards. R Nik Lewis was 5 for 64 yards and 1 TD while WR Johnny Forzani caught 2 passes for 44 yards and 1 TD.
QB Kevin Glenn will play his 200 CFL game. He is currently in 12th place on the CFL's All-Time passing yardage list.
Both Cornish and Nik Lewis missed one practice this week due to flu. Joe West missed practice due to injury but will play vs BC.
DEFENSE:
Overall, the Stamps defense played well against the rookie QB Nicholls of the Eskimos. LB Malik Jackson played really well last week with 5 tackles and 1 QB sack, his 2nd of the season. LB Juwan Simpson is 8th in the league with 60 tackles for the year. DE JUnior Turner tied a career high with his 4 tackles. Stampeders registered 3 QB sacks on the night.
DE Charleston Hughes had his 7th sack to tie his career best for a season and is in 3rd place in the CFL sack race. CB Keon Raymond picked an INT and had 2 tackles on the night.
Stampeders is ranked 3rd in run defense at 97.1 yards per game allowed.
Rookie DL Stover played his first game last week but did not last the game because of the injury. DE Stevie Baggs practiced on Tuesday but left early on practice on Wednesday. He is questionable for the game against the BC Lions.
SPECIAL TEAM:
KR Jason Armstead made his debut last week totalling 104 yards on 8 returns.
Stampeders leads the CFL in punt return coverage limiting opponents to just 6.6 yards per punt return. K Rene Paredes was a perfect 3 for 3 in field goal attempts and now has 114 points in the season to make him tied for 3rd place in the CFL.

Stamps look good this year. Sure wish we had Tate back though.
Any word on how he is doing?

I am not a big fan of Kevin Glenn but i think he's one of the reason why the Stamps are doing well. We are not sure if the Stamps will be as good if Drew Tate is playing. He could play like Travis Lulay or he could play like Steven Jyles so we should be happy that we have a capable backup QB that could step in as a starter.
Tate been practicing but i don't think he is close to coming back just yet. He might be back 2 games before the end of the season or during playoff time.

Khalif Mitchell is not playing for BC tonight.
Good first possession drive. Too bad they only scored a field goal. So far Glenn been passing the ball and Cornish hasn't touch the ball yet.

The broadcast has been soiled by showing Ryan Kesler.
B.C. is moving the ball a little too easily.

I got the feeling Dickerson is trying to figure out BC's defense this early in the game. First possession, all plays were passing plays and scored 3 points. 2nd possessions, it was all Cornish and scored another 3 points. Hmmm...

EFF. STupid mr. Glass is the worst offensive coordinator in the league. First possession, ALL passes. Second possession ALL runs. Wake up man.

Much better defense. I would rather see Lulay ran the ball than throw it.

Rod Black sure loves his B.C. Lions. Would have been nice to get more than 6 points out of those drives, the Lions came to play you can see the intensity is there.

Too bad their top 2 receivers are out. We gotta take advantage of that!
How can we win? bench Fraser and let Huf call the plays. Make Mr. Glass the QB coach.

We need some 2nd down stops, B.C. is converting over and over. This game could get away in a hurry.
.....pathetic.
