Icon30 Ekblad Leaves World Junior Camp With Concussion

Quote:
Aaron Ekblad suffered a concussion in Canada's world junior exhibition game against the Czech Republic and will miss the rest of summer development camp.

Hockey Canada said that Ekblad, the No. 1 pick in June's draft, is expected to make a "full recovery" and be ready for Florida Panthers training camp in September.

The 18-year-old defenceman was hit hard during Monday night's 6-2 win over the Czech Republic and left the game.

I didn't think the hit looked bad at all. I assumed it was a leg injury because of the way he fell. Hope it's not too serious, he seems like a really good kid.

Spoiler!

He's a bust for sure! They should trade him now while they can.

That was a pretty hard hit.

He had some good speed, and came to an IMMEDIATE stop.

No coasting, did not pass 'Go', went directly to the ice.

Yeah, it's the sudden stop that does it. Many times concussions are not directly related to direct head contact.

Whoever made the hit must be pretty solid.

Not that it overly matters, but I wonder if teams will just have players who are going to stick in the NHL skip this camp. I know you want to keep up the charade that certain guys have to earn their spot, but kind of pointless for Ekblad to be there.

Prospects still have to play to get better so one way or another they are going to be at risk of injury wether it's in junior, NHL, or a camp.

Reminded me of the Lombardi hit by Detroit. One player gets beside him giving him no where to go while the other player lines him up.

This news displeases me.

Keep your head up kid. Don't turn into Eric Lindros.

Mackinnen, Drouin, Griffen Reinhart amd Reily weren't invited last year. Should've done the same with Ekblad

Give him a break, it's the dog days of August and his head is supposed to be on a swivel in some pointless tourney. If you ask me these kids are forced into wayyyy too much hockey.
