Icon26 Jackets Bring in Regehr and Hejduk

The Columbus Blue Jackets got a pair of deals done over the past 2 days since his rant in the trade block thread. The first deal was with looooob in Buffalo:

To Buffalo:
Thomas Holmstrom
Marcel Noebels
2012 2nd(buf)

To Columbus
Milan Hejduk

Hejduk gives us a good scoring threat up front to help take some pressure off Nash, Richards and Vanek. he is a veteran player who we think can contribute in the playoffs.

The 2nd deal was with Doug in Carolina who GM MJK has always had a great working relationship with.

To Carolina
Joni Pitkanen
2012 1st(bos)

To Columbus
Robyn Regehr

We like the D swap here but unfortunately it costs us a 1st round pick. We think Doug did very well in this deal and are still not sure why there was so much hate for Pitkanen.

Thanks for the trades gentlemen, I look forward to future deals!

Love to see the trades but definitely think doug won the regehr trade. I value pitkanen the same as regehr so he just picked up a free 1st.

So Pitkanen + 1st for Regehr makes sense to you but when I suggested the same deal for Orpik (1pts lower OV, better DF, having a MUCH better NHL season and is cheaper) you laughed at me and called me crazy.

LOL makes perfect sense.

It does make sense, I like Doug more than you.

If I'm making friends in trades then I'm probably getting the wrong end of them.

Doug likes to take his time and really evaluate a deal (he took a couple of days here to decide he liked this deal) and I respect him a lot for that because it shows he does care about his team and the CPHL and he wants to make sure he is making the right decision for his franchise. We didn't mind doing a deal like this with Doug at all and knew it favored him. I prefer Regehr over Pitkanen and we know Doug will get a lot of mileage out of that 1st.

Thanks to MJK for the deal; we did have some interest on Hejduk, each package had their own selling features, but this particular deal worked for us. It's probably true that veteran UFAs are getting the same return as in other seasons, but for us to get a prospect we like and recoup our 2nd for a few days we would have left of our leading scorer Hejduk is fine with us

Holmstrom is available!

Hurricanes Part Ways With Legendary Defenceman

Raleigh NC – The Hurricanes move defenceman Robyn Regehr to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Joni Pitkanen and the Boston Bruins first overall selection in the 2012 Entry Draft.

Once considered the most untouchable player on the ‘Canes roster now finds himself back in the playoffs after a horrible season. At first it looked liked the rumoured deal wasn’t going to happen but after long consideration the dejected “Canes GM pulled the trigger and set Reggie free.

It was becoming apparent that the 8.5M contract that the Hurricanes awarded to their star defender in the offseason was slowly becoming a noose. Not necessarily this season but two seasons from now the contract would have been too much to overcome. With such a poor season, one in which their GM was certain they would be a playoff contender, it was obvious that the ‘Canes needed to acquire Pitkanen who could fill some of the void and also have a mid 1st rounder as an asset to increase the depth of the organization to get the team back in the postseason next year.

The Hurricanes future is bright, there’s no question about that, but the Hurricanes GM needs to find a way to accelerate the teams success because quite honestly… this seasons depressing the hell out of its once fanatic fan base.

Thanks Dave, and for being patient while I talked it over with Reggie
