Suggestions for a nice vacation in SK?
Going to a family reunion in Saskatoon in the summer, so maybe want to rent a cabin by a lake or something similar nearby or en-route.
Any suggestions? I'd prefer something modern but Waskesiu is probably too expensive (family is going).

Waskesiu is great. Nearby Candle lake is alright as well, but I'm not sure on the cost to rent cabins there. Basically, northern Saskatchewan is fantastic during the summer. Maybe head up to La Ronge?
Also, my Dad caught a big fish (think it was a northern pike) once upon a time at Piprell Lake and he used to drag us all back there all the time. I've never caught a fish or even had a damn nibble in that ####ing lake. Nice scenery, but fishing drove me nuts there.

Delaronde Lake is about the same drive but half the price and people. Look for a place called Pickerel Point.

LOL. Poor Photon.
If you're looking to rent a cabin near a lake, the entire Lakeland region is nice. Many beautiful lakes in the area. Waskesiu is nice, but really expensive. I would recommend Emma Lake, since it feels like a resort town, but not as expensive as Waskesiu. Candle Lake is very nice as well, but a bit out of the way.

My grandparents own a cabin at Emma, so I know the area pretty well.

I can talk to my parents. We are having a reunion there that they are planning this year and we are all renting cabins.

I have a family cabin at Emma Lake as well, it is one of my favorite places in the world. Beautiful beach, warm water, nice weather. There's lots to do for a family up there as well, and you can rent boats and water sports things from the Marina.
Its also only a half our from Waskesiu, which I would highly recommend too.
The only drawback is having to drive through Prince Albert to get there, but even that is only ten minutes and you are on your way.
PM me if you have any questions about details, I grew up over the summers out there...

Meadow Lake Provincial Park is very nice, I would highly recommend it, specifically Greg Lake. It is a fair bit north of here but an amazing spot and not too many people (yet) to ruin it!

Oh yeah, the reunion stuff is already set, we just want to have a family vacation before the reunion.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll see what the others say.

Sure they could stradle the border, go to Bud Miller Park, go to the peelers at the wayside (oh wait, not there anymore) ummm try to climb the border markers... You could go have a beer with a couple buddies of mine though...
There are a lot of lakes within a two hour drive of Lloyd though... Meadow lake provincial park was already named but Brightsand, Turtle, Ministikwan, Loon, Makwa, Little Fishing... there are tonnes. Try a search on VBRO as well. I think there are some listed there. I wouldn't go to Sandy Beach though... it has the itch.

Your family must not be anything like mine. I would need the vacation AFTER the reunion.
