Default Concrete or stamped concrete, anyone know approx current costs?

Just trying to make some decking decisions, and can't decide what to use on the lower part of my deck (2 story deck).

Something like that.

Anyway, does anyone know the approximate cost per square foot for stamped concrete?

well regular concrete goes from about $6-$11 per/sq ft. I reccomend foothills concrete construction (not foothills concrete readymix). they are about $7 per sq ft. i've known their finisher for 19 years.

not sure if they do stamped though.

Sorry to bump 2 threads on the same topic in one day, but realised the other one was in the power ring section which doesn't get much traffic.

Anyone know of an approximate per square foot cost for stamped concrete? Nothing too complicated, rectangular pad with rounded corners for a starting point.

Thanks.

I think you're confusing exposed aggregate with a seal on it. That stuff is slippery.

Stamped is just regular concrete with a stamped pattern.

Both are EXTREMELY slippery when wet. But the easiest way to avoid that is to add some of the grip silica sand to your sealer when your doing to seal your patio.

I did a stamped and colored patio about 4 years ago that was 18'x22' and has 2 steps coming off of the door. A few tips if I can offer from my experience.

I never had a steep enough grade to my patio, I only when about 4% when I should have went about 8% to ensure proper drainage even with a VERY experienced concrete crew there was still 1 or 2 low spots on my patio.

Anchor the patio to your house I drilled into my foundation 2"-3" with a Hilti drill and hammered 36" lengths of rebar into it then I tied all my rebar off of those anchors and I put them every 30" rebar is cheap and it will hold your patio up from sinking. Dont use fiberglass mesh (fibermesh) you will see it in your patio and it looks horrible.

I also used powder to color my concrete which it thrown on top as the concrete cures and then stamped into the concrete, I should have used a color mix that was added directly into the concrete I have a few chips that now show just plain colored concrete. They can be fixed but using a tinted sealer the next time I seal my patio but its a pain in the ass until then.

Try not to get the crew to use deep cuts in the concrete (deep cuts are those lines in the side walk that give the concrete a designated and controlled place to crack when it settles) instead get them to do a couple of saw cuts, it looks much cleaned and you need fewer of them my deck has only has 2 and its huge.

When you seal your patio use ONLY ultra high gloss sealer (get it from Northland) its about $10-$15 more and the difference is night and day compared to the high gloss and as I said be sure to add some of the grip sand to the sealer so you don't biff with a plate full of steaks like the guy typing this did.

Concrete patios are not cheap mine would have cost me $8500 or so if I didnt work for a concrete company but they look much better than wood, hold up just as long if properly maintained and add more value to your house.

$20-$45/sq foot depends on who does it and the quality, your best bet is to call someone out to get a free quote done and get references or places you can view there work. Any reputable finisher should be proud to show you their work.

Question: can an existing concrete slab be re-surfaced and acid stained or stamped? Would it be cheaper to just replace the old slab?

TIA

it depends on how thick you/they can pour on top of the old slab, if not very thick i would not recommend it since they would only grout it (no aggregate only sand/concrete/water mix) and it can chip easily or seperate from the lower section if not done 100% correct and in our climate with the ground shift it makes it harder.

Also I agree with above if you color use a complete color mix instead of just the pigment while stamping or polishing, as like above it can chip or it will wear off in high traffic areas once the "sealer" starts to wear.

Finished concrete is about $200 per metre for the best work. Add 50 per cent for stamping. Most contractors don't have stamping equipment but will rent it. I did this work in a previous life. I like exposed aggregate. Mine is all exposed-aggregate concrete. It depends on the look you want which you choose. Both are very nice. Exposed aggregate doesn't have to be slippery.

I did my own stamped concrete walk two years ago. The sealer might be a little slipprier than a standard groomed concrete finish, but there's enough texture in the stamping to offset that. It looks great, by far the nicest looking walk on the block.

I was able to just call up Burnco and get a delivery of concrete the same day, which most people would have no chance of doing.

I swear if you wait long enough someone on this board will answer the question on an issue you might have as the wife has been on me to investigate the cost of this stuff and I told her about $10k and that was not good enough for her........

We have a two tier deck and we no longer like it (it was my first deck, and was not overly well thought out). I now want to tear this apart and do one big one level deck on the ground.
