Where can I sell copper in Calgary?
Helped a friend clean out his garage and came across a bit of copper.
Where does one bring this in Calgary to sell it, and is it worth much or more of a waste of time?

I've never taken copper in but I've recycled aluminum and it was worth the trip.

Edit: You need to bring clean metal to get full price. That means no wood, or plastic spindles, no plastic sheathing on the wire, etc.

Copper? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Copper!
JonDuke, there's four places. There's the Copper Hut, that's on third. There's Coppers-R-Us, that's on third too. You got Put-Your-Copper-There. That's on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the Copper complex on third.

Worth much? It's the most common stolen metal. Tons goes missing from industrial business' yards every week.

Helped a friend clean out his building and came across a bit of copper.
Can you believe that it was just sitting there in the walls? What a maroon.

Yeah, apparently it's a huge problem with foreclosure homes in the US.

Give it to some Canucks fans, that way this year they can have blue-green fire. Same color as the jersey's they will light on fire! They'll get a kick out of that.

I thought they had introduced a stamping (labeling) process here in Calgary. I've heard without documentation you will have a nice chat with boys in blue.

February:

Individuals stripped copper wire from a unit that was set to be drywalled inside a fenced site, says project manager Lindsay McAlister.
"They had a bunch of wire pulled out of the walls and rolled up on the floor all ready to go," says McAlister - who estimates that the cost of damage done during the incident, and the time and labour needed to repair the area, resulted in expenses of $2,500 to $3,000.

And this one from January:
Quote:
Phone service in the Langdon area was disrupted when thieves stole over 300 metres of copper wire used for phone cables on December 29 and 30, 2011.
Strathmore RCMP were alerted to the two thefts of the wire, which is described as 22 gauge/100 pare copper wire. Witnesses reported seeing a white or tan coloured Nissan truck at the location from which the cable was stolen. A suspect in the theft was described as wearing a headlamp at the time of the offence.
Constable C.L. Kelly of the Strathmore RCMP says police estimate that the value of the copper wire is approximately $10,000.

my best friend had a job carrying wire around for a heating / plumbing outfit (I think it was anyway). Anyway he used to always end up with extra wire that people had thrown out and they'd give it to him- he'd strip the wire and end up with the copper, and then go and sell it. It is quite valuable, I remember he was able to raise quite a bit of money surprisingly. What a bum.
Anyway I just shot him a text and asked him where he sold it, I'll come back and post in here if / when he responds.
apparently "Calgary metal in the industrial area" is where it's at.

Thanks for the replies.
Did indeed find it in my buddies garage. True story.
His dad passed away 2 years ago and I've been slowly helping him clean out his house and a few days ago we started tackling the garage.
This pic was after 6 hours of loading up a trailer full of tools.
So, yes...the copper was legitimately "found"
I am not worried about having to chat with the boys in blue
