Now this is a guy I wouldn't want to meet on the street.

Funny how he had so many weapons and yet was allowed to enter the States as a normal person would.

Hard to say they had much choice. But man, if there was ever a guy who looked like a psychotic murderer, it's got to be him. Imagine a guy staring at you like that carrying a bloody chainsaw!!

A few points of interest:

I grew up in New Brunswick, and I've entered the US from that border crossing at St. Stephen/Calais hundreds of times. Not once was my car ever stopped and checked; normally it goes like this:

"Good evening, sir."
"Where are you coming from?"
"What is your destination?"
"What is your reason for entering the United States?"
"How long will you be staying?"
"Are you carrying any alcohol, tobacco products, or firearms?"
"Enjoy your stay in America, sir."

That's it. The questioning lasts at most for a minute or so.

From what I've read, they held him for over three hours, did a full search of his vehicle, confiscated his weapons, but ultimately had to let him go because they had no cause to detain him. As silly as that sounds in hindsight, at the time he wasn't wanted for any crime, and he was a US citizen. They had to let him enter the country -- if he was Canadian or another nationality they could have denied him entry, but they couldn't do that to an American.

I've been to the U.S. several times, and entered at various locations from Washington to Minnesota, and never had a single query or background check. Not that I would need one, but they are sooo lax.

Getting back into Canada on the other hand - those guys are uptight!

It's been the opposite for me.

Customs officials at both Calgary Intl and Pearson are downright anal when you try to get into the US, while crossing a land crossing (at least at Carway) was much like what MarchHare stated. At Pearson, I got pulled out of a line of about 10 people, all in Flames jerseys to have my bags randomly searched.

Coming into Canada, however, the agents at the airport when I got back from Tampa basically just hoped I had a nice trip. Driving back at the Peace Arch in BC, the only question I was asked was "are you bringing back more than $50 worth of stuff in the US?" Didnt even look at me or check ID.

When I clicked that link and saw that face, I got cold chills all over. Yikes! And the story? Oh my, it's hard to fathom there are people in this world like that. Scary I must say. If there are people in this country who are against the death penalty, in most cases I can understand it, but for someone like this, what in God's name is the point in taxpayers paying to keep him alive? The evidence sure seems overwhelming, particularly when your own attorney questions your sanity.

As for the bloody chainsaw:
Quote:
Mr. Anthony conceded it "sounds stupid" that a man wielding what appeared to be a bloody chain saw could not be detained. But he added: "Our people don't have a crime lab up there. They can't look at a chain saw and decide if it's blood or rust or red paint."
You have to be kidding me right? What a joke.

Unbelievable.

This guy is completely out of it, and that is one scary image!

There is no Marine base in Kansas BTW.

No kidding eh, I was wearing my full Flames gears at Pearson flying into NYC enroute to Tampa and the US customs guy gives me a dirty look, keep in mind I'm a model citizen with no records whatsoever :P :

Him in grunting southern accent and an angry death stare worthy of comparison to Vader in Ep III, obviously had a bad day or something:

"What's your nationality?"

Me (confused by such dumb question and his attitude):

"Uh...Canadian" (duh you're reading my passport dumbass)

Him: "Where are you going?" (He also has my boarding pass)

Me (thinking WTF is his problem but try to be pleasant):

"Newark then connecting to Tampa"

Him: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING in Tampa?"

Me: "Catching Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals"

Him: "What's that?

Me: "Hockey, a hockey game"

Him:"Who's playing?"

Me: "Calgary and Tampa" (really I would like to strangle him now, I'm wearing a Flames jersey, my boarding pass says I'm going from Calgary to Toronto to Newark to Tampa, now WHO COULD BE PLAYING OTHER THAN CALGARY AND TAMPA!?)

Him: "Whatchu do?"

Me: (utterly confused, did not register with me at the time that he's asking about my occupation, since WTF has that got to do with catching a hockey game?)

"Uh...I'm a hockey fan going to watch the game?"

Him (Screaming at me, now everybody looks at us weird): "WHAT ARE YOU A PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY FAN!? I SAID WHAT DO YOU DO?"

Me (really irritated now trying my best to hide it since I'm in a hurry to get on the connecting flight in 10 minutes)
"I'm a student"

Him (still looks p*ssed, looks up my passport or something on his computer, then THROWS my stuff back at me)
"OKAY HAVE A NICE DAY SIR"

Me: "Thanks, you too" (I really wanted to say Motherf__ker after "you too")

My buddy meanwhile gets the nicest guy next to me at the customs counter, luck of the draw I guess
