The man who was the motivating factor in toppling a corrupt and dirty President along with the administration has reportedly identified himself 30+ years after the fact.

Here is a rather interesting retrospective of the whole Watergate debacle.

I always thought it would be Alexander Haig. He's just the sort of ratty two-faced weasel type. He'd have been doing it for personal gain, though (remember the "I'm in charge" spiel when Ronald Reagan was shot?)

Although, from what I remember, the smart Vegas money was always on Felt.

I think the moniker became crude after the most popular porno movie ever was named the same title.

Its interesting. I was watching something on TV last night (CBC I think? Or maybe it was one of the American stations), and they stated that while fascinating, being extremely interesting, and adding A LOT of intrigue to Watergate overall, Deep Throat/the reporters/the story didn't have ultimately that huge of an impact - in the sense that there was already a lot of other stuff going on re: uncovering this...

He actually took his pseudonym from the title of the film, which was very popular at the time.

Yup, I checked it out and you're right, I stand corrected.

Though, now I'm also wondering why he chose such a sordid title
