Owen Nolan announces his retirement

Owen Nolan, a power forward who was taken first overall in the talented 1990 draft class, announced his retirement Tuesday as a member of the San Jose Sharks.

So, if I understand the rules correctly, Nolan would have to be bought out of his contact if he was signed to a UFA deal this season... is that correct?

Yeah he would, but I don't think he was signed as a UFA this past summer.

While his retirement opens up 5 million in cap space for the Coyotes, he was still playing solid for the Coyotes.

In 59 games, he had 16 goals and 17 assists.

Hopefully we can replace this loss from within or maybe perhaps from an outside source.

Sabres wish Nolan the best= we signed him to his 3 year deal a few summers ago with the hope that he would continue to play well and or retire...instead he kind of did neither for the last 18 months- felt the need to deal him this summer to the yotes due to the uncertainty but seems like he provided PHX with solid play this year
