Icon31 HBO's 24/7, Inside the GM's office: Episode 2

Mr. Savill: *presses button on phone* Send him in.

Responding to an implied question

I hate doing this, it's the worst part of my job. These guys work their tails off to be here and... well... to give them this kind of news, that the team is going in a different direction. It can be difficult.

I prefer to do this kind of thing face to face for sure. It lets me see if they still have the desire to play. If they don't, then I know I've made a good move.

Martin St. Louis enters the office

Voice over: News of a trade isn't usually taken well. Players develop relationships on and off the ice and changes to that status quo can be a shock to the team.

St. Louis: You wanted to see me boss?

Savill: Sit down, I have something to tell you. We've made a trade

St. Louis: I've been traded? Why would you do this to me? I've been playin...

Savill: What? No! You haven't been traded. I wanted to inform you that you'll be... well... um... it's worse than that. I've traded for a Sedin. And he'll be playing on your line.

St. Louis: *tearing up* What is this... I don't... How could you do this to me? To the team?!

No one wants to play with a Sedin, so the hard feelings are understandable. Despite the hard feelings, the team must solider on toward the end goal of winning the Stanley Cup.

Trade News!!

To LA:
H. Sedin

To Anaheim:
Bergeron
1st (pho)
Prust

I wanted to get deeper, and picking up Sedin to play on the top line does just that. Kesler moves down to the 2nd line and can play more PK minutes than before.

I shuffled my centers around a bit when Kesler was having conditioning issues 2 weeks ago and felt that the changes were an overall positive impact on the team. This move lets me play Kesler in more of a shutdown role on the 2nd line and should keep his minutes at a level he can play more frequently.

I dont like giving up Phoenix's first, but I feel like that pick is going to end up closer to 15 than 5, so I won't mind it so much if I'm right.

Thanks to Ravi for the deal! We had talked a bunch way back when I first joined the league but just couldn't get a deal done. I'm glad we got this first one out of the way because I think he'll make a great trading partner down the road.

Love the write-up. These were definitely some good talks and hopefully this trade ends up helping both squads in the end. Bergeron hopefully will fit in well in the #2 C role (something Sedin hated since we acquired Toews). The 1st round pick will likely be middle of the round so maybe we can add a nice prospect to the organization. Prust is strictly a depth player who should be able to eat some 4th line minutes. We are 3rd last in the CPHL so clearly this is a move towards next season.

Feels good to get rid of a dirty Canuck! Thanks to David for the fun talks!

You forgot one thing though.. Sedins and winning the Stanley cup are two things that don't fit together... Unless the convo or statement goes like this : (Insert any team without a Sedin here) played a Sedin which led to (insert any team without a Sedin here) winning the cup.

Good thing this is the CPHL Cup and not the Stanley Cup.

Speaking of which, we need a name for our "Cup"
