I'm in Phoenix now and we rented a car through Turo and it saved us about $300 for a 2 week trip. You might want to look into it.

It has been a while since I have been to the US; however, the last time I rented a car in the US it was $30 per day with coupon I found on the net.
Seems to me uber fares would add up to more than that and you seemingly run the risk of being sexually assaulted in a uber.

Turo. Rent yourself a 2014 Corvette Stingray for $100 per day!

Phoenix is very spread out - if you are traveling back and forth from Gilbert to other parts of the city I think Uber would get quite expensive.
A car rental gives you more freedom - you could visit Tucson.

Would I want to visit Tuscon? I was thinking about Sonoma.

I'd say both are very interesting.
In and around Tucson:
Arizona-Sonora Desert museum is outstanding
Biosphere 2
Kitt Peak National Observatory
Colossal Cave Mountain Park
Kartchner Caverns State Park
Mission San Xavier del Bac
Mexican food!

Depends on how much driving you are doing; I would recommend uber for ease of use personally.

Rent a car, Go up to Sedona, take a hike up the Superstition mountains, do the Scottsdale thing.
Go to a ballgame, April in the valley is amazing.
Don't just sit at a pool

The only question that matters is, how much do you plan on drinking?
going to the ballgame? really want to question that 3rd beer? or relax and drink it.
same thing with dinner, why stress over that 2nd glass of wine, indulge. Then Uber without a care. If you are not one to care about having those beers then you should rent a car but for about 1/2 of what you quoted above.

Renting a car in Phoenix should be dirt cheap in April.
Personally, I'd rent one, and Uber as needed if you're drinking.

I'm going to be drinking at most events I do (Diamondbacks game, Suns/Warriors, and the NCAA final 4). Will definitely cab there. I'm just wondering if spending $600 bucks to rent a car for 9 days is likely worth it just for runs to the mall/stores with my wife, to and from the airport, and a couple of day trips, maybe to Sedona. I guess the convenience of having it. I'm thinking it probably is.
I actually hadn't realized how great of sporting week my wife had chosen (pure fluke). Diamondbacks player the Giants 4 times, NCAA final 4 is there, Coyotes play (will avoid that), and the Suns are in town including a game against the Warriors.

Just to give you an idea of Uber costs: I took Uber from the airport to the JW Marriot (I think it's technically in Scottsdale) and it was about $60. Don't underestimate how huge greater Phoenix is.

Saguaro National Park and the USAF airplane graveyard are also great spots in and around Tucson.

Not to Hijack the thread, but I was hoping to learn of any sites/ways to get cheap tickets (resale) similar I guess to kijiji or Cpuck for a Coyotes game this month.
I know there's lots who travel down there and attend games, just curious on the best way to go about getting some half decent tickets at a good price!
Thanks!

Buy a case of pepsi at a local grocery store and you'll probably get a voucher to a Coyotes Game.
Seriously though, there's decent tickets for $25 bucks on ticketmaster though if you don't want to scour Phoenix looking for ticket deals.

Surprisingly, it is not. I hear people saying how cheap it is to rent a car in the US all the time, but in the 34 years i've been on this planet, i've never experienced this phenomenon. Maybe i'm just unlucky. Even the Costco rentals down there are expensive.
