Default Fireplace or woodstoves?

I get a nice fire going and it just seems to heat the chimney and very little in the living room. I've noticed a small draft in the house when it's going too.

I don't think it's very efficient, I'm thinking I'm going to buy a wood stove

I think the previous owners had a wood stove in here before and took it with them considering the way the firepit was set up.

I was really hoping for some heat, it's getting cold here, I know it's not northern cold but it's still getting in the low 20's and mid teens and that is really really cold for here.

I've read that wood stoves are super efficient and a good source for heat.

So what's your opinion CP?

Wood stoves are pretty good and most people around here use them as we have lots of fir. The one thing is you have to have the set up inspected or insurance companies won't cover your home.

There are some very good products available now. They key is access to cheap or free firewood. If you have to pay retail for it it can get quite expensive if you are using it often.
