Running an extension cord across a sidewalk...
So it's coming up on almost four years since I snagged a few beauty extension cords from some sucker who left them unsupervised outside his residence and it's time to put them to use now that the search has been called off.
The house I'm currently living in has only street parking available in the front. My battery has started dying overnight due to the recent cold and I'm wanting to run a couple cords from the outlet out front of the house to the vehicle. Does anyone know if there some kind of city bylaw against running cords across a sidewalk? I checked the city website and it refers to the banning of cords running to trailers/RV's but doesn't specify vehicles. Google brings up a couple articles talking about the issue in Regina but that's about it.
Any help is appreciated!
***Nevermind- finally found an answer on the City of Calgary website. Looks like I'm S.O.L. Thanks anyways.***

Remove the exterior sheathing off of the section that crosses the sidewalk, and people will only step on your extended cord once.

Better add a claymore and a trip wire just in case their shoes/boots have rubber soles.

I had my cord running across the sidewalk last winter, I just made sure it always stayed pretty flat and tried to cover it in snow when possible.

So you stole some extensions cords and waited 4 years before you figured it was safe to use them? And then decided to tell everyone about it? HAHA, wow.

I've seen people lay cords across their sidewalk and then place a doormat over the cord. It seems to work pretty well.
Just laying a cord loosely across the sidewalk can be a pretty big hazard, I biffed pretty hard after tripping on one last winter (I was jogging at the time).

My neighbour uses a tree to go up and over the sidewalk but I have seen people use poles(tent poles?) of some kind.

I just unplug all cords that cross my path during my freezing Winter walks.

I just run the cord across the sidewalk. I wrap the cord a few times in knots around my fence on the side of the yard while running it out, so if some jackaloupe decides he wants my cords, it'll take him 20 min to untangle it.
I don't care about pedestrians. I'd rather my block heater stay plugged in.
If it's against any bylaw, I'd gladly figure out some better way, but that seems like a silly bylaw when it's -35 outside.

Back in the late 90's we had a some crazy guy in our neighbourhood that would steal peoples extension cords and garden hoses. He was arrested a few years later and found his garage stuffed with the stolen goods.

I think there was a law against putting extension cords on the sidewalk as people would likely trip over them. I remember people having to run their cords up on trees towards their car to prevent people from tripping on them.
Who knows it may have changed or its still under review.

If you have an older vehicle that does not have anti-lock brakes then you can have some one time fun with this situation.....sparks and pieces of grill flying all over the place.....
