What a horrible story. I am in shock, and completely saddened.

My thoughts go out to the families of the deceased officers. I hope the media has this wrong.

A horrible thing . . . .

If so, one of the deadliest days in Mountie history.

I pray that the media got this wrong, I really do. This really hits close to home for myself.... but I encourage everyone to pray for the families, the other officers and the safe return of the police officers who laid down their lives (it does appear as though that is the case) in order to protect the public.

It sort of feels like someone has kicked me in the gut, it really does. I feel sick someone could do that.

I hate rumors, but one thing I heard is that two Mounties went to this farm last night and were killed. The gunman then apparently waited until reinforcements to appear today, and killed them as well. I too, am sick to my stomach.

I'm not for the death penalty but when stuff like this happens it makes me strongly reconsider that position.

Hits home for me as well. My father was a career police officer. As well, my wife's family has a cabin on Lake Wabamun, just south and east of Mayerthorpe.

You've got to wonder about the logic of some criminals. Growing pot probably doesn't net you more than a few months in the clink, versus 4 counts of Murder.

Here's to hoping police snipers got this guy in the gut.

In case anyone really wants to listen to the press conference by the RCMP qr77 is carrying it live at 5:15 today. ww.qr77.com for anyone at work.

IHH I agree there would be nothing worse than that guy having a quick death, he diserves as much pain as he could potentially get.

I really pray that this is just a mistake, and that the media got it wrong, but I just can't see that being the case.

Yeah you are right, I didn't even think about the murderer. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that four cops gave their lives today for a man who had no right enjoying life on this planet.

That conference is being held in Ottawa by the RCMP's Commissioner.

That one will be on QR77 as well.

It's still 5 dead, whether you look at it as four dead cops and one dead criminal. Because the way your looking at it is as if anyone who kills someone is scum of the earth.

Jesus, that's awful. Sick to your stomach awful.

What's really interesting to contemplate is that if you've ever bought weed, you might be putting cash into the pockets of people like this. Scary.

Sorry he is the scum of the earth and I don't consider him a person in the matter. Right now four police officers were murdered.

I bet both the 'pot decriminalization' and 'war on drugs' people will both use this incident to attempt to further their respective causes.
It's already happening on skyscraperpage.com.

I'm all for the legalization of pot (even though I don't use it), but this guy was also keeping stolen property, so good riddance to him. It's just too tragic that 4 men serving their community were senselessy murdered.
