Ok. Here's what I've been able to gather. Someone from Vancouver can correct the details.

Brian Burke has an acrimonious relationship with David Pratt of the Team 1040. I believe that radio station had made some disparaging comments about Bertuzzi's wife and Burke retaliated by making sure no Canuck would talk to anyone from that radio station. Furthermore, Pratt suggested that Burke told Crawford to decrease Morrison's ice-time because Brendan was in the last year of his contract (stupid). Burke got into a shouting match with him and has since refused to talk to him. Pratt, who now has a show with Don Taylor, sometimes plays clips of Burke and takes shots at him. Burke refuses to take the bait.

Now, Jennifer Mather (Burke's wife), is a radio personality on CKNW. Apparently she got to the breaking point and phoned in Pratt's show to defend her hubby. Of course, the Team 1040 is milking it for all the ratings they can. The Vancouver Province decided it was worth column space as well.

Burke is usually on Dan Russell's CKNW show on Thursdays and wanted to keep his schedule but Russell refused to have him on until the soap opera blows over.

Burke, in line for an Anaheim job, being sued by Steve Moore, broadcaster for TSN, owner of a WHL team, in fights with media, and publically supported in the media by his wife who just happens to be a radio personality. If nothing else, it's entertaining.

Here's Jennifer's 14 minute call:

Not related, but I am glad I am not in Vancouver and having to listen to David Pratt AND Don Taylor on the same show. I can't believe there's enough air time for both those arrogant egomaniacs to listen and enjoy the sounds of thier own voices on the same show.

Colin Smith, Dave Rowe, Ussleman, they're all annoying at time, and sometimes out to lunch of things, which is frustrating.

But to listen to that pompus David Pratt, who I just remember was the TSN guy in Vancouver before Farhjan " Steve moore's probably going to be out a few weeks" Lalji, always had his nose in the air like he and Vancouver sports was superior to most (and then his weekly roundtable show on TSN also was more a show for him to stroke his ego).

Combined with Don Taylor who doesn't have to try to act impartial (like he does even a bit on Sportsnet News), and preteneds to be a combination of a bad Jim Rome with his "takes" and Chris Berman, with some early 90's Van Earl Wright thrown in there ofr "cool yet inventive names for players and plays" (if I hear Harvey Astrom out of his mouth again on Snet news I'll throw up) I would premanantly have to erase 1040 off the AM dial.

I agree Browna - Don Taylor is horrible. He's got a few "bits" that he uses every sportscast and that's it. His favourite is to take a last name and say for instance "in Crosbyian fashion". Lame.

Moreover, why is it that Vancouver seems to have more homers than other markets? Tony Gallagher is another guy that drives up the wall. Most of Calgary's main sports guys (Mark Stephen, Peter Maher, Rob Kerr, etc) do a pretty good job of staying impartial in my opinion.

I also think Dave Rowe is under-rated and brings a different knowledge base to the table than the rest of the Fan crew - particularly with his racing knowledge. Rick Lafitt (sp?) is also under-rated and a guy I wish they would give more on-air time too.

But yeah. I recall from living in Vancouver that their coverage out there is horrible. Ugh.

And Paul Allen is building a house on the north shore. Actually to call it a house would be an understatement. The thing is bloody huge. I don't know though I don't really read that much from the Vancouver media, and I just pick up on the highpoints that are pointed out to the crowd here. It doesn't really seem like a representitive sample as to the entire sports-media population of Vancouver.

I think that Robb Kerr is sort of a homeresque type of announcer, but as I have said in the past, there is nothing really wrong with that.

I would think that Mike Richards sounds to be similar to those clowns though. Not really a fan of that guy and his impressions.

Oddly enough, Vancouver hates him. Gollum Gallagher had a problem with Brian Burke so he NEVER said anything to make the Canucks look good, just make Brian Burke look bad.

As for the 'Vancouver Swagger' my girlfriend sees it too. She's from Montreal and she can't stand it when someone (including me) goes off on some sort of tangent about how great Vancouver is.
