My good deed for the day:

If you have friends/family coming into town and want to take them up the Calgary Tower, the best deal has always been to buy a year pass for 4 for 40$.

It costs 4 people 40$ to go up once, may as well get a pass, and it pays for itself if you go more then once.

(they used to have cheap drinks in the Tops Grill, a couple years ago we went there to drink before Flames games a few times, so I got a pass..then they closed the grill before the beginning of the last season for 5 months of renos, so the pass was useless  )

That 40$ deal still stands now, however, they are constructing a glass floor currently around the entire observation deck, which will be done in a couple months.

When taking my wife's parents up there and buying a pass today, the guy mentioned that after July (when the floor is to be done) the year pass will go up from 40$ to 115$!!

Highly not worth it 3x what it is currently, but if you buy a year pass before then, it is if you're doing some entertaining, or, planning on going up there for dinner/lunch more then once (which is pricy enough) it is worth it.

Can you buy it at the cashier that you'd be paying to go up the one time? I mean, if you were to go there one day, can you just buy the pass at that time (and therefore ensure free entry for a year)?

I don't understand the 4 people part. Any 4 people at a time, or 4 specific people.
The pass I bought will get any 4 people in at any time during the year. I assume they assume that you'll be one of those people, but they never check the passholders ID, so it doesn't matter what 4 actually go up.

http://www.calgarytower.com/reception.htm

That webpage shows the regular rates, which are still in effect like I mentioned. That will change in a few months.

And yes, you can buy the pass when you get there and use it to go up that first time.

Can a 4-person pass get only 2 people up or does it have to be 4 at the same time?

Last time I got it, I used it a couple times just to go up there with the wife for a drink, so I assume its any number of people up to 4.

Thankfully my Father-in-law has free access to the Calgary Tower pass at his work, The Fairmont Palliser.

BTW, I recommend the Honeymoon suite at the Palliser for $99. :P
