Random ID Question
Does anybody know what happens if you lend your ID to a minor and they are caught with it and it's confiscated?
What are the ramifications for the minor and for the person who lent the ID?

What's it called when you buy booze for a minor? I am sure this can be at minimum the same thing, but it also could be far more serious like providing forged documents.
But my law knowledge comes from watching Miami Vice and Criminal Minds (and a couple CJ courses), so what do I know.

Depends on how honest the minor is.
What they should do is say that they wanted to have some fun so they took it from your wallet or that they found it and you can claim you lost it. Basically they'd avoid implicating you in any way of knowing that they were using the ID.
Then to get a new one you just say yours was stolen or try to recover the one that was confiscated.
If the minor says you lent it to them I imagine you'd be in trouble. Not sure how much though.

I recommend if you are a minor and you borrow your buddy's ID to buy booze that you don't go into the bar where is hockey coach is the bartender. I also recommend not borrowing the ID of a guy who is half Native if you are Irish/Scottish.

Better pray for a break, I'm assuming that it was the police that got their hands on it?
In Canada giving your ID to someone else is considered to be fraud. The person using the fake ID is perpetrating the fraud, the person who gives it is assisting fraud.
Chances are you'll get a lecture, but there is always the possibility of a court date.
Especially in the day and age of identity theft.

Spirits of Oakridge used to keep a "wall of shame" in their back room with all the ID's they confiscated. When my brother was old enough to work there, he found one of my old ID's on said wall.....

I know someone this happened to, the police took his passport and now he cannot leave the country. He will be going to court to see the judge, otherwise he is stuck. Providing someone with ID can be punished harshly.

I teach junior high PE and Health, and I used the following resource in my recently completed "Substance Use and Abuse" unit. It specifically relates to the law in Alberta regarding alcohol and minors. I does not mention the possible consequence for the adult in your case, but here is what it says regarding the minor:
What could happen if I tried to buy liquor with a fake ID?
A person attempting to purchase alcohol with a fake ID could be charged under Section 403 of the Criminal Code, Identity Fraud.
Minors (between the ages of 12 and 17) who are charged with criminal offences are mainly dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which aims to rehabilitate youth before they enter the adult legal system. As a result, the penalties can include probation, community service work, or a fine. In very narrow and specific circumstances, a convicted youth could receive an adult sentence.
