9-1-1 calling...
This is my wife’s story and she’s stickin’ to it…..
Last night I was at hockey so my wife was home alone. She had been talking to our neighbours on the phone. About 10 minutes after the call with our neighbours had ended she hears, “911-police/ambulance/fire, what is the nature of your emergency” (or something like that). She looks around and is trying to figure out where this voice came from. She hears it a couple of more times and then realizes that it’s coming from the cordless phone. She picks up the receiver and obviously confused she starts asking the 911-dispatcher what she wants. Now the dispatcher is confused becuz she is saying that my wife called her but she didn’t (if you hit the redial button it shows the last 4 out-going calls and 911 was not one of them)
Has anyone ever had that happen before??
My only explanation/rationale is that maybe the phone (being cordless) didn’t properly disconnect or something at the end of the call to my neighbours and maybe someone else in our neighbourhood dialed 911 and for what ever reason (similar frequencies?) our phone took the call over??
It was just sorta weird.

Something like this happened to me about three weeks ago.
At 3 AM, I got a phone call from the police asking if everything was okay. Of course I was, I was asleep at the time in my condo. They claimed I called 9-1-1 from my cell number. I told them I had no idea what they were talking about. My phone was plugged in, sitting on my desk, just chillin' there.
The operator was dumbfounded that I did not call them. I told them that unless I had the most legendary bowel movement in the history of man and required the tactical team's assistance, my interest in calling them at that time was incredibly low.
One of the most bizarre calls of recent memory.

I've pocket dialed 911 with the emergency function on my phone.
As for a cordless, do you have a police speed dial? Perhaps that was accidentally pressed.

^^police on speed dial... nope
like i mentioned - if i hit the 'redial' button on the phone it shows the last 4 numbers dialed - and none of those are 911
i also checked the history of incoming calls - and they didn't call us

I've heard stories where cordless phones picked up the neighbours signal and you could hear both sides of their conversation. Maybe someone in your area called 911?

I had this happen once, totally my fault though. My g/f at the time and I were rolling around in the sack when the cordless rings. 911 was on the line asking if I needed help as someone from this number called and hung up. I told her my g/f may need an ambulance when I was done. (that parts made up) In reality what I said was that no one had called, it was just my g/f and I. She asked me if anyone was telling me to say that and to respond with yes or no answers. I assured her all was alright but fully expected the cops to be knocking on my door at any moment. She was very adament that she thought someone was holding us at gunpoint and I could communicate with her by tapping keys on the phone.
We both had a good laugh.

I've had this happen from my old blackberry. Somehow I hit the emergency dial button, and I didn't realize. When I finally did notice 10 minutes later, the police asked for my address, as they had been listening for the past 10 minutes at me and my husband bickering about cleaning the house. They had dispatched the police since they had heard a disagreement, but since the phone is registered in my moms name, they showed up at her house, looking for the domestic dispute. Eventually they tracked us down, and we had to explain that we were having a normal disagreement about cleaning, and we were both fine. My husband was so embarassed. 2 days later, he bought me an iphone.

the dispatcher asked my wife the same thing and she had to reassure the dispatcher that she was totally fine and just playing games on the computer when she heard this voice coming from the phone

I used to have a set of 900mhz wireless headphones that would pick up cordless telephone signals from across the alley in relation to our condo. Sometimes while trying to tune in the signal to watch TV I'd stumble upon an interesting conversation and just listen for a few minutes. Nothing juicy though. Mostly talk that made me realize how stupid teenagers are.

Not related to 91 calls but it reminds me of this story. Years ago my daughter made the three-hour trip to Calgary for coffee (oh, kids!) with a couple of guy friends. They were driving around Calgary and were pulled over by the city police. She was sitting between these two guys and the cops came up to both sides of the truck and specifically asked her if she was in the truck willingly. I give the cops credit for being proactive.

I had that happen a few years ago with my cell phone. I must have butt dialed the emergency option somehow. I was sitting eating lunch and my phone kept vibrating. Anyway I slipped away to check my messages and had 3 all from 911 in my voice mail. I figured out how to turn the emergency thing off and that was that. Not sure how I activated the emergency feature though, it was a fairly complex combination that needed to be dialed.

I think if you dial something close to 911 it triggers something within the system. My cell number has 9s and 1s in it; and once when a friend mis-dialed they called her back. (And the 9s and 1s are too far apart to accidentally dial 911.)
