Default Altering Laptop Sound Output settings

Sorry if the title is a little confusing.

I've been playing around with a nice laptop for a while (Sager). The only problem I've had with it has been with some audio outputs. It seems to nearly muffle a voice to almost nothing (in particular with voices in games). After running some diagnostics and a bit of process of elimination, I think it's because the audio settings that have been causing it (as oppose to a game issue). I'm wondering if anybody has experienced this issue with laptop voices and if there is a way to fix it by altering the computer's built in software.

The laptop lists:
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Sound Card Driver: RTKVHD64.sys

It also uses NVIDIA High Def Audio.

Any help that can be provided would be great.

EDIT - I guess I should note that I've never seen this issue on laptops before...granted, my first one was a bargain HP laptop...

You could try fiddling with your control suite - Realtek normally has an icon in the system tray (Lower right) that give you access to direct input/output to the correct ports

Otherwise, I would uninstall and then reinstall the most updated version of your driver (edit: Link here - make sure you choose the right one as your hardware) . If there are any setting issues, that should correct them by reverting to defaults.

An more expensive fix, and may not be needed, but it could be your issue is just to buy a new usb sound csrd. My Dell audio port went a few years ago, and since it is impossible to replace, I bought a ~$65 usb sound card and fix it.

As another Sager owner, the realtek chipset is fine. The NVIDIA high definition audio has nothing to do with your audio unless you are outputting via HDMI to a big screen TV, etc.

Right click on the volume icon in the task bar and select "playback devices". Click on your speakers and select properties. On Enhancements make sure stuff like Voice Cancellation is not on. Try turning on Loudness Equalization. Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager (orange speaker icon in your taskbar icons) and play with those settings also and make sure you are not on a strange environmental setting or room correction or have some kind of artificial surround setting on. You can also try to change from 2 speaker to 5.1 speaker because IIRC, the low frequency subwoofer on the Sager may not work properly on 2 speaker.

I was an idiot...I wasn't in Stereo mode in a 2 speaker system

Thanks all
